Normally I don't go for single-purpose kitchen gadgets, especially one that takes up counter space. But, we eat a lot of bagels in my house, and one of my old jobs had one of these in the kitchen, and I found it very convenient. I like this thing -- it's fast, it's convenient, it does a more consistent job than I do by hand. No, it's not a safety issue, since I never injured myself cutting a bagel (but this way I know I never will, I suppose). Only problem is, some of the bagels I get at my local grocery store are just too big for this slicer, and I have to resort to the knife again. It would be great if the makers of the bagel guillotine would come out with a larger model. Maybe a Louis XVI to go with the Marie Antoinette? (You know...king-size and queen-size.)Customer Review: I'm not feeling the love

I don't get it. We just can't slice a bagel with this w/o mashing it. We have to pull the bagel out of the unit and then try to reshape the bagel into a circle. We'll keep trying though, mayb e practice makes perfect. Hopefully I'll be writing another review with more stars. The slicer is a very sturdy and well made.Customer Review: If you are still using a knive to cut your bagels, get this!

My students run a "bagel bar" at school each week & I didn't want to have to worry about them slicing their hands. This worked great! We've been using it for a few years now & I love it!!! Works very well, some bagels you have to flatten a little to get them in there, but thats only if its a really big bagel. If you slice bagels a lot, you need this!!!
