This is one of those things engineered to help separate retirees and amateur chefs from their money. I got mine today by way of donation from my elderly great aunt, who has owned it for perhaps two weeks. The blade IS extremely sharp, but since it must be hand washed, you can imagine where this ended. She sliced her hand on her first attempt to wash it, and after the wound stopped bleeding a week or so later, she's terrified to even keep the thing in the house. I took it mostly because she didn't even know how to safely dispose of such a thing.
This whole design takes advantage of the average person's ignorance of the trade-offs in materials science. It capitalizes on people's fascination with exotic materials. It solve NO problems which are relevant to the average home chef, and introduce many totally unnecessary problems. Sure, it is extremely sharp and resistant to dulling from the abrasion that causes regular knives to lose their edge over time. But hardness is not the same as strength. As other reviewers note, this type of material WILL chip or break quite easily from mishandling or using on bone. Extreme sharpness carries NO advantage for cutting tomatoes, unless you mean to take 5-micron wide slices for microscopy or some other exotic application. (As a biology researcher, the only use I forsee for my Yoshi is some sample sectioning work with a hand microtome).
The blade's delicacy requires hand washing, which almost guarantees a emergency room trip sooner or later, especially for anyone with limited coordination or eyesight, arthritis etc. You're essentially being asked to wash an oversize straight razor by hand. My advice is to NEVER attempt this with a regular dish washing sponge. Use a brush with a handle that keeps your fingers well away.
Assuming you do everything right, what do you get for all this trouble? Freedom from sharpening (and practically speaking, no option to sharpen). If you're not willing to learn how to sharpen steel knives, you probably have no business taking on the culinary arts in a serious way, even as an amateur. Ceramic knives might be worthwhile for line chefs preparing certain vegetable and fruit dishes in large volumes. For most people, they're destined to become worthless and sometimes dangerous curiosities which will do nothing to make you a better chef.
