I bought two sets of these wooden spoons, one for myself and one as a gift. My old spoons were working fine, but looking old and I just sort of figured, well, why not have a new set on hand.
What a disappointment. I've entered a photo above, showing my old (discolored) spoon next to the longest of the new spoons in this set.
The bowl of the new spoon is less than 1 1/2 inches wide. The bowl length is less than 2 1/2 inches. As you can see by the photo comparison shot, you won't be able to move much cookie dough or stew or whatever around with the new too-narrow spoon. It's really quite ridiculous.
The handle of the new spoon is narrower than the old spoon, too. This may account for the breakage other reviewers have noted. As I haven't used the new spoons yet, I can't speak to that, but with the weaker handle on the new spoon, it certainly has a better liklihood of breaking.
The old spoon looks discolored because it's gotten constant use for 15 years. If I don't splurge on more wooden spoons, I guess I'll be using the old ones for another 15 years! I now have six new wooden spoons that I don't like!
It looks like I can only blame myself for not better researching before buying. That's also the problem with buying on-line, you can't see the item up close.
