Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Whirlpool Duet HT : WFW9200SQ 27 Front Load WasherCustomer Review: LEMON, LEMON, LEMON AFTER 2 YEARS Summary: 1 Stars
We bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer and stacked them in a laundry closet and thought they were the best thing in the world for two years. Then....
The F11 kiss of death code. No repairman really seems to know how to fix it, but thanks to someone else on the internet, I figured out where to PUNCH (I am not kidding, I have to punch it every couple of months) the machine to get it to start working again. This was after days of frustration. In case you have the same problem - you need to punch the machine in the upper back right hand corner and for some reason, it seems to start working again - you may need to unplug it a couple of times, but beats paying a repair man. This trick has worked for the last 6 months so far.
If that wasn't bad enough - the dryer door won't close and pops open after one minute of working. Haven't figured out a creative way around this one yet, but I am going to keep trying.
This combo seems great, but will crap out on you fairly quickly. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! IT WILL HAPPEN ON YOUR DIME AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES!!!!
Customer Review: Leaking!!! Like Crazy!! Summary: 2 Stars
My laundry room was full of water!!! I took the panel off and checked the filter thinking that maybe it was clogged (again) and that is what caused the leak. There was one baby sock in there. I removed the sock and plugged the washer back in. I tried a rinse cycle and the water started pouring out the bottom. The rubber seal around that connects the door and the tub has come completely off! The water is running down the door and straight out the bottom!!! There is a round metal thing hanging down, how am I supposed to re-attach it? I can't afford the repair man again (Christmas time)and my warranty has just run out (typical).
Customer Review: Only lasts a few years, and Whirlpool has the WORST customer service Summary: 1 Stars
After only having this washer for a few years (and paying about a grand for it), the bearings have gone bad and will cost us about $400 to fix it. The worst part about it is that the repair guy told us to call whirlpool, that this is a very common problem with these washers and they should cover it. Whirlpool was totally unhelpful and informed us that it is out of warranty, so there is nothing they can do. I told them what the repair guy said, and their response was "well, there is no recall out." Whirlpool is currently in litigation over one of their other washers- same thing, lots of repairs and no warranty coverage or recall. Sooo, we will never buy another whirlpool item again, which is too bad since all of our appliances are made by them and were quite pricey. They will be losing a lot of business from us, all to save a few bucks.
Customer Review: Only works for a few years... Summary: 1 Stars
We've had a terrible experience with this washer. It actually worked fine for the first year and a half, but after that it developed a leak which has grown to about a liter per load (we use baking pans to catch most of it). We had someone out to look at it, and it turns out that detergent collects at the bottom of the door along a plastic insert, exactly where a small hole has formed in the "boot" (big gasket) that seals the water in. The detergent corrodes the boot. Replacing this is really expensive (hundreds of dollars -- a good chunk of a new washer).
I called Whirlpool customer service, and spoke to one of the most unhelpful and unsympathetic customer service agents I've ever encountered. The message was simply, "it's not our problem since it's out of warranty". She didn't even have any advice about how we could work around this.
Bottom line, avoid this one unless you want to replace it after a few years.
Customer Review: Problematic Machine and Bad Customer Service Experience Summary: 1 Stars
I had all the problems that other reviewers had at Amazon.com... door that does not lock all the time, flashing error code, mold and odor problem, and constant service calls that could not determine the issue. In my last service call last week, the repair person indicated that he saw a lot of the same problem and wanted to replace the CPU part - costing $430. He said that my problem was so common that he told me to call Whirlpool to see if they have a recall. I did and I found that the Whirlpool rep was professional but unyielding, refusing to do anything to help. Here are their position:
1. It was not Whirlpool's responsibility after the warranty expired - Whirlpool started counting from when the machine was manufactured and not my purchase date
2. They blamed my repair person - even they were authorized service dealer for Whirlpool - for not able to address the problems for the last 1.5 years
3. We had several technician came in the last 1.5 years trying to find the problem... Whirlpool never had a record of them calling the TECH SUPPORT (but I was there and several of our repair records documented that "CALLED TECH SUPPORT AND NO PROBLEM FOUND."
4. They wanted me to call another authorized service company, paying another $125 for the diagnostic of the problem. After that, I still have to pay for the additional repair.
5. Finally, they asked me to organize my records and fax to them. I did and found out that it was just another to get me off the phone. I called them afterward and they just told me the above #1-4 again.
The Consumer Reports rated Whirlpool well and am very surprised about its quality. I was actually a loyal Whirlpool person, based on Consumer Reports' rating. Almost all of my appliances were from Whirlpool(except the range from GE Elite). I will investigate the class action lawsuit and see what happen there. In the meanwhile, does anyone has any idea on other things that I can do?
