I purchased this item thinking it as a clear, see-through filter cartridge only to receive an opaque cartridge. KDF filters work great, but it is helpfult to be able to see when the copper zink media is "gunked up" so you can change the filter cartridge out. I haven't decided yet, but am contemplating returning the filters.

KDF Process Media are high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys that filter water through a process based upon the principle of redox (Oxidation-Reduction). Originally, KDF was shorthand for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion. We can explain redox like this: KDF Fluid Treatment's unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new compounds are created. The 1/2 pound of GAC media helps to further reduce chlorine taste and odors.Replacement Water Filters
