The TurboBlend 4500 is a 2-speed (high and low) machine. The Vitamix 5000 is a (high and variable) speed machine. The variable speed dial on the Vitamix 5200 enables the user to adjust to a slower blending speed than the TurboBlend 4500. Both machines have a 2+ peak hp motor.
The TurboBlend 4500 is sold through Retail Dealers and the Vitamix 5200 is sold directly through Vitamix.The two Vitamix models 5000 and Super 5000 have a center variable speed dial, which I feel is not worth the price.
The variable speed is seldom used! Even in their own manual,
Vita-Mix gives this recipe for smoothies:
"Select variable speed #1. Turn on machine and quickly increase speed to #10; then to High. Run for 1 minute until smooth."
Well, that's the same as flipping the 4500 switch from low to high. When you flip the 5000 to high, the variable switch is no longer active.
Why pay $75 more to turn a dial? I'm happy to flip a switch up.

I contemplated for about a year before spending so much on a blender. I finally purchased it and have used it every day, several times a day and love it. I no longer purchase fruit drinks but make my own in seconds. I now keep organic frozen fruit and yogurt on hand, and this makes delicious smoothies. Soups? how simple when I come in late and don't feel like cooking. I eat much better and very rarely eat junk food, just drink a fresh fruit smoothie. Great for a breakfast smoothie drink too when sleep takes priority. Very easy to rinse out. It is worth the money. It will also scare the deer away. When my windows were open, deer heard it and took off; it is a little loud but no worse than some of my other appliances. Certainly should not deter you from purchasing it. Our Vita-Mix kitchen blender/grinder has been in service for about 30 years---that's right THIRTY YEARS! It has NEVER been sent in and has been a great kitchen appliance for all it is designed to do.
I would agree that this product is noisy when running at full "turbo-engine" speed---sort of like a loud vacuum cleaner. So don't run this product early in the morning in your RV or close quarters at home. You'll wake up everybody!
Great for homemade soups using leftovers, making apple sauce, juices, and cold veggie drinks. A fabulous product, highly recommended.
