Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500

Customer Review: Pretty good
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife uses this a lot more than I do. We have fruit/veggie juices most mornings. For the most part, you don't have to worry about peeling or seeding - this thing just chomps up whatever you dump in and about a minute later you have juice. I use it to make ice cream - a handful of frozen strawberries and a cup of half&half and forty-five seconds later you have a pitcher of ice cream. I also used it to puree cooked onions for a vindaloo sauce - thirty seconds in this revealed a far better product (smooth with no chunks) than I'd ever gotten with my other food processor.

There are some drawbacks. It's expensive for one. It isn't always easy to get stuff like ice cream completely out (the stuff hides below the blades). It is noisy, but since time of use is usually short, it's bearable. It sucks 11.5 amps! - That's about as much as my 10" mitre saw does.

Unlike some others, I've found cleaning it to be easy. Dump some hot water in, add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid and turn it on. Do it again with clear water and it's finished.

My wife swears by it, and I find it pretty handy.

Customer Review: Pretty good so far.
Summary: 4 Stars

Not as noisy as I worried it would be. So far seems to be working well. Not as good as the hype - I was expecting it to really liquify everything which now in retrospect was unrealistic. It is however way cool to blend things at 2 horsepower and I've been playing with it everyday.

Another problem is it tends to make a lot of foam - it's possible that using ice would mitigate that somewhat (I've been blending mostly fruit straight)

Customer Review: Product is OK when working but customer "service" is not
Summary: 2 Stars

We have a Vita Mix, the 5000 which is similar to the 4500, and it has been malfunctioning on and off since the first week. The product is great when it works, but when it doesn't I sure don't feel like it was worth almost $400.

Vita Mix customer "service" is a joke. The first time we called we were told both "you aren't using the product correctly" and "it is working the way it should". Hard for me to beleive that a $400 blender should thermally trip off and stay off for 20 minutes when chopping ice or frozen fruit for smoothies --- it's kinda what it was purchased for!

The second attempt at "service" we were told that the drive gear was probably bad, they would ship the part and I would have to replace it. I was told I could NOT return the item until this had been tried. Again, for $400, I don't expect to be servicing my own appliances.

Customer Review: Solid professional blender
Summary: 5 Stars

Very happy with this product so far. Does ice, frozen fruit, and dry mixes easily in about 10 seconds. powerful motor with sturdy base. not as loud as some other reviewers have said.

Customer Review: Step up to the best
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are in need of a new blender, don't even hesitate with buying this one! I have gone to cooking classes where the chef would continue to rave about his Vitamix and now I know why! It is so powerful it blends ice down in seconds! You don't have to worry about overheating the motor. Sauces and soups come out so smooth. The second best thing about it is it is so easy to clean! You don't have to take it apart - you would need tools for that. You just add soapy water and whip it up and give it a quick swish with clean water and you are done! That alone could be worth the price! You may even use it more often like I do now as I no longer fear having to wash it out! You can't go wrong, you will absolutely love it! Don't even think about prettier blenders unless you are more interested in how it looks than how it works.
