Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500Customer Review: Cult like following! Summary: 5 Stars
AMAZING MACHINES. WE have two from the 1970's, I've upgraded them with better gears and blades a few years ago - these are truly awesome machines. Soups, breads, baby food, sorbets - I can't rave enough. In fact, when the COSTCO road show for Vitamix rolled into town, I upgraded to the 5000 model - AND HAVE USED IT EVERY DAY - a nice hot vegetable soup for dinner - EVERY night - a protein shake during the day - and a great fruit sorbet for a dessert. Figure if this machine saves you $20 for each meal you eat in - you can pay for the thing in a month or two. If you are spending eighty cents to $1 on EACH jar of babyfood - that is primarily SUGAR based - imagine how much you can save on blending up 40 ounces+ of vegetables, some pasta, some organic cheese - pour it into 1 ounce ice cube trays (Rubbermaid - $2 plastic kind) and you have 40 servings - for less than $2 or $3 of raw materials - you have saved yourself AT LEAST $25, more like $35! Do this once a week - and this is just your baby food, not even your dinners, bread, desserts - and you will begin to see the magic of this device. It puts money in your pocket. And they LAST FOREVER - the people that work at Vitamix and the entire Vitamix company have achieved a cult-like status for a really good reason. I just can't rave enough about these machines. And if you have an old one, Vitamix will even buy it back from you for an upgrade. AMAZING!
Customer Review: Customer service sucks at Vitamix Summary: 1 Stars
I just bought the latest model the 5000 and the machine is good but the price is quoted wrong. According to the Manager of Vitamix they add tax at all times so the price you see is not the price they charge at vitamix. If you go through ANY vender they always add extra claiming tax. So if you authorize the price they will attach tax in addition to it. Check your statement when / if you still choose to order. You will have to call your credit card company.
Customer Review: Don't buy waste of money and Energy Summary: 1 Stars
We bought the Vitamix 5000 about 1 1/2 years ago. Since then we had only trouble with the machine. With the easiest load the motor shuts off and I have to put it in the fridge, because it gets overheated. Despite returning it 3 times for repair the issue is still not resolved!
I then asked for our money back but Vitamix's customer service was very unfriendly and refused to refund.
To anyone who wants to buy one: Don't do it!!! You have only trouble and the customer service really sucks. Save yourself some trouble... I'm not a review writer but that Vitamix matter was really annoying. I just wanted to let you know what we ran into.
We are most likely looking at the BlendTec instead hoping that a) it actually works and b) we get better service in case we do need it.
Customer Review: Don't Believe the Hype Summary: 2 Stars
The Vita-Mix is a sort of industrial strength blender. Basically it is one device that does the work of six others - poorly - at the price of 10. Trust me when I say that for half the cost you can get a half-dozen appliances that will do the jobs twice as well. If you are thinking that the Vita-Mix will take up less counter space than those other devices, be aware that it is probably too tall to fit between your countertop and upper cabinets.
I have owned a Vita-Mix for 15 years now. I only occasionally use it - it's simply too cumbersome to use for most of the jobs it is advertised to do. I have had no trouble with it mechanically, but the rubber gasketry eroded fast and the charges for replacement parts is simply ludicrous - I wound up casting them myself. Beware if you are not up for this sort of thing.
As a blender it is really over-powered for making smoothies (it's only real justification for existence), although it can be fun (though obviously cumbersome and time-consuming) to make ice cream with it. It is simply absurd as a food processor. If your idea of making soups is throwing ingredients into a turbofan and heating the resultant homogenization through friction, enjoy. Don't expect any luck with alphabet soup, though.
If you are Tim the Toolman, you will enjoy this over-powered gadget, which can be used to whip wood. Otherwise, save yourself a lot of money and frustration.
NOTE: One of the other "reviewers" says that the Vita-Mix corporation will buy back your old blender for an upgrade. Be aware that we're talking about the equivalent of an auto salesman taking in your old car as a trade-in - it's only shaving a fraction off the price.
Customer Review: Excellent Product-Used every day since I purchased it-NOT TOO NOISY Summary: 5 Stars
I read all the Amazon reviews before purchasing this item and I was concerned about the noise. Yes, it makes noise, but its NOT as noisy as some reviewers make out. It makes the most wonderful fruit smoothies, margaritas, pina coladas, daiquiris etc-just like in the restaurants. My kids are eating WAY more fruit than they usually do, and it is quick and easy to use and to clean. My old blender had to be taken apart to clean, this one has only the lid that comes off. I love this machine-it is really worth the $.
