My Dad got me one of these for a gift, and he's been getting his other friends the Vinturi too. It's really amazing. You pour a swig of wine into the glass to taste. Then pour some through the Vinturi, and compare. The Vinturi-treated wine is sooo much smoother and refined. It's like decanting for a few hours, without any flavor loss. Truly amazing. I'm really enjoying it, especially so far with new world wines like the 2006 Marquis Philips Shiraz that I picked up at Costco. This is a gadget that really lives up to the hype. I ordered this Vinturi Essential Red Wine Aerator from Amazon.com on 29 November 2011...
I am the neighborhood watch captain and I get invited to all of the neighborhood parties... I order this unit because it made wines that had a little bite taste better... I did not receive a complete unit and was made aware of this when I took mine to a wine party next door... My neighbor asked me where is the holder and travel case? I replied I did not get one... She said her order came with it and she took me to the website and sure enough, it was listed in the Product details... I have not received a response from the outsourced customer service who is insensitive and cold-hearted...
Please be aware that this unit comes with a holder/base and a travel case...
Mine did not and I feel cheated and violated... I have purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise from Amazon.com because they were once reputable and economical.
As of late I have been having too many problems with my orders and have started purchasing from the local vendors like BevMo...

Customer Review: An easy way to make average wine very drinkable

Having drunk many different types and grades of wine over the years and while not being a pompous wine connoisseur I do enjoy a good wine and enjoy a good value wine even more. At home I always decant most of the red wines I purchase and this aerates the wines and removes a lot of tannins and produces a much smoother rounded taste. At a restaurant this is not very practical but using the Vinturi aerator you get as good if not better results without the need for the decanter and now I often find my self using the aerator at home as well.
On the down side it can be messy with wine sneaking out of the air wholes on the side and if you are not carefully running over the top if you pour too fast. But as a way to make a value $20 bottle of wine taste like its cost twice at much you cannot beat this little tool.

Just follow the directions - it works like a charm.
I typically will open a bottle and drink it over 4-5 days (with the help of a vacuum sealer) and so I find this aerator infinitely helpful as I don't really want my bottle to get much air or breathe.
You should definitely do the trick of trying a sip with and without aerating - it makes a big difference.
I will say I wish I'd gotten the stand, if only to make things ever so slightly easier, but not a big deal. I would make sure to keep the rubber holster clean and run some water through the aerator after using it.
The carrying pouch is great for casually busting this out at a party too. You look less sophisticated, but more interesting.
