I was excited to order the wine aerator and a bonus stopper as a gift in a nice boxed set a shown on the picture. However, when received a separate stopper was taped inside a plastic bag. I was disappointed because the stopper shown in the picture seemed to be shorter and would work better corking a bottle to place in the fridge. However, the one sent was cheaper, and very tall, leaving it unable to use in the fridge. The aerator is very good, I even ordered one for myself, but without the stopper this time.Customer Review: Amazing Product

I was dubious about the qualities attributed to the Aerator. Suffice to say that I'm convinced that this does improve the taste of freshly opened reds, particularly ones with greater concentrations of tannins. We tried this device at a family reunion in Sonoma County, CA ... some of the finest wines in the country come from the valleys there ... some of the most demanding pallets come from there, too! Every single person that compared reds poured straight from newly opened bottles to reds poured with the Aerator declared the taste of the Vinturi-assisted pours to be superior. We could even taste the difference in a nicely aged 12 year old. I'm back here to buy another Vinturi Aerator for our own wines ... 'nough said!Customer Review: Better than cheaper copy

So I bought this for one reason....make my wine taste better right after cracking open a bottle. Does it work?
Well I conducted a blind taste test with my friends. I poured one glass using the aerator and another without. One by one asked my friends which they preferred without them knowing which glass I provided them. They all quickly preferred the one without the use of the aerator. I've done this with other friends and different types of wine, and the consensus is better without.
This was shocking to me, but I also similarly agreed. I wouldn't consider myself the ultimate wine connoisseur, but there's a distinct enough difference in taste that has led everyone to prefer without the aerator.
When I do let the wine breathe for an hour before drinking, I do prefer it more then when it's consumed right after opening the bottle.
Maybe I have to let the wine breathe after using the aerator for 5 minutes before consuming. Well more testing is needed.
If I find a friend that does prefer it in the taste test.....Christmas might be coming a little sooner than he expected :)
I give it 1 star for now, but still going to test further. If I find some ultimate combination of using the aerator and letting it breathe for 10 minutes, I'll let you know and increase my star rating.
