You need to slice stuff first in 2 or 4 pieces. This is OK with me. How ever I wish I could buy another white fork comb to clean it. I broke the teeth and now it a pain to clean the white lid teeth that forces the items down.
It does what it says. people breaking it need to remember just to cut in to smaller pieces.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! I got thi home and thought it would be great as I seen on tv not even close. It does not work good at all. Even after using it a few times trying to get it to work right. The onions dont go through and is VERRY hard to close. couldnt get that onion through. Well after all this i scaped it in the g bag. SAVE YOUR MONEY ALL this one is just not worth it (I wish it was. MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT THIS CHOPPER FOR THE SOUL PURPOSE OF MAKING SALSA THIS WEEKEND. MY WIFE CLEANED AND CUT THE ONION, TOMATOES, AND PEPPERS WHILE I RAN THE CHOPPER. SHE COULD NOT KEEP UP WITH ME AND THE RESULTS WERE TERRIFIC. LAST WEEK WE CHOPPED BY HAND AND MADE A SINGLE BATCH IN THE MORE TIME THAN IT TOOK TO MAKE TWO BATCHES THIS WEEKEMND. CLEANUP WAS A SNAP AND I WAS TOTALLY IMPRESSED. I USED THE LARGE CUTTER FOR THE TOMATOES AND THE SMALL CUTTER FOR THE PEPPERS AND ONIONS. THE SECRET TO CHOPPING YOUR ITEMS IS NOT TO USE TOO BIG OF A CHUNK. IT IS SO QUICK, WHAT ARE A FEW EXTRA STROKES WITH THE CHOP WIZARD. This thing is so fantastic I make excuses to use it. For years I have wanted something to make Mexican salsa with. Tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños for a big bowl used to take me 40 minutes to chop! (OK, so I'm not that good in the kitchen). Now I've got a bucket of salsa in five minutes, and it's fun. It's even fun to clean! Along with a cat, it is one of the things I have resolved never to live without again. If it broke, I wouldn't even care--I'd just buy another one.
The one thing I would kill for is a slicing insert. Why didn't they make this? Or did they? Please Vidalia, THIS IS A CRI DE COEUR!
The Progressive International Chopper comes with a slicing insert, and I even think it's manufactured by the same people (the Vidalia has the word "Progressive" in slightly raised lettering on it). However, I don't like the Progressive as much, for persnickety reasons. You have to put the lid (the thing that slams down on the onion) on "just so," whereas with the Vidalia somehow you just slap it on and away you go. The Progessive comes with a handy plastic case to put the whole thing in, but it is so precise that, again, you have to fit everything in just so. Psychologically it seems too tight and compressed ... I need wiggle room. I throw my Vidalia back in the box, toss it on the top shelf, and I'm done.
Objectively the Progressive chops and dices just as well, once you've hooked the lid into place and pulled it out of its tight little box. And it has the slicer attachment for mushrooms, etc. If you are not bothered by the same crazy stuff as I am, then buy the Progressive. Personally, I am sticking with the Vidalia, which gives me enormous pleasure, and in the meantime I'll pray that Vidalia starts making other inserts.
