Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorinox 47547 10-1/4-Inch Wavy Bread Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Customer Review: Amazing knife for an even more amazing price
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been constantly impressed with how well the Victorinox blades perform and this one is no different. I do primarily use it for a bread and at that its the best knife I've ever used. Its quickly cuts the bread without tearing or "smooshing" the bread. It grabs clean and clear. I think the serrated tooth placement is the reason for this - its neither too wide nor too narrow.

I've also used the knife on tomatoes and its quite lovely there as well. To me though, its all about the bread. This knife easily goes through a bagel and, more importantly, I don't feel like its going to slip and cut open my hand. I can move to my favorite harvest bread and cut a slice and then take down a baguette like a pro. I love not having smooshed, ripped bread! Now that's a good knife.

Ergo wise, the handle is soft and conforms to the hand. The blade is very light and does have some bend. Overall the blade isn't heavy and feels just right in my hand. Its a simply stamped blade. This isn't a beautiful knife but it sure gets the job done as good, if not better than, bread knives costing 3x as much.

Oh and this is an American Test Kitchen highly rated knife.

Customer Review: Amazing value
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't bother dropping $80+ on a bread knife from some of the more well known knife brands (e.g. Wusthof, Global, etc.), even though this is a stamped knife it works like a charm. I definitely wouldn't go any smaller than this 10.25" model, especially if you eat a lot of artisan bread that can be rather large in diameter. It cuts through tough crusts with ease, and I haven't crushed a single loaf yet. Just yesterday I stacked 8 pitas on top of each other and easily cut the stack into quarters for pita chips. I even started to multitask with it; it's great for slicing large roasts and cutting up sandwiches as well.

A wonderful knife to complement any kitchen.

Customer Review: Any way you slice it, this is a great knife...

I'm so happy that I signed up as a member of the Cooks Illustrated site. They recommended this knife as a sensible alternative to another knife costing 3 times as much. I've been baking a lot of rustic breads lately, and sometimes the top of the loaf is, well...rustic so with a "regular" bread knife, cutting perfect slices is a challenge. Not with this knife. It's sharp, accurate and a pure joy to use. Dead on slices, as thin as you dare to cut them. Like another reviewer said, I wish I bought this knife 20 years ago! The best $25 bucks I've spent in a long time. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Awesome.

So I got this knife for my mom for Christmas. She was completely blown away. Not only does it cut bread like it was a piece of tissue paper, but it also has an amazing name. I feel like you have to hold it over your head and shout the name before you cut anything with it.

Customer Review: Beautiful, Beautiful Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

This Victorinox knife is just wonderful. Lightweight, it's strong and razor sharp. The handle is comfortable well designed to make sure you're not likely to lose you grip.

My husband bought it for me as a surprise because I'd been complaining about the one I purchased at the grocery store after our old one bit-the-dust. We really need a good knife because we now make our own bread every week. And unlike the old knife which made me saw the carbs, this blade just slices perfectly with very little pressure and crumbling.

Highly recommend.
(Too sharp, btw, for use by younger children)
