Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vic Firth French Rolling PinCustomer Review: I LOVE this rolling pin Summary: 5 Stars
I am a back to the basics kind of cook. I make bread, baked goods and pie crusts completely by hand and enjoy doing everything hands on. I completely agree with all of the positive reviews of this product. It is simplicity at its finest. I am so glad I purchased this even though I paid double the current price for it. NO regrets!!
Customer Review: It works better than a flat pin for round projects Summary: 5 Stars
This pin makes it really easy to roll out dough into a disc on the first try. It makes for very flakey, delicious crusts.
I have used it to take the store bought pie crust, fold it up 4 times, wad up the folded result, then roll it out an extra 2 inches, round. This gives you an amazing tart-like, thin, flakey crust, that you wouldn't expect to get out of store bought garbage.
The less times you work the dough, the flakier and more delicious the crust turns out, and this is the rolling pin to do it.
Customer Review: Know What You Need Summary: 5 Stars
Quality is excellent. Can't fault the finish at all. Some reviewers complain about the taper beginning at the center, but that is NOT a fault, merely the nature of this style pin. You do need to understand the appropriate uses of the various kinds of rolling pins available to any baker. Different dough characteristics and different end products call for different weights and styles of pin. This pin, for instance, will not develop enough force for some jobs, but it is highly maneuverable and very nice for thin products, like pie shells where you want consistent thickness and where you need to work the dough from the center out to avoid cracking. In truth, the serious baker will have different pins to select from. This is a nice one to fill the spot it's designed to fill.
Customer Review: Lightweight and easy to use! Summary: 5 Stars
This product is as described. The Wood is good quality and has a smooth surface. No splintering or dry cracked areas. After applying a light dusting of flour to the rolling pin, I was able to roll the dough with ease and no sticking. If you have never used this type of rolling pin before it might take a little practice. After a few tries I was able to develop a method that is working well for me. I use it a lot for rolling out tortillas, pizza dough and pie crust. I find circles difficult to make with a straight pin and seem to be having better luck with this tapered pin. Very lightweight and easy to use!
Customer Review: Long and tapered rolling pin Summary: 3 Stars
This is a good quality rolling pin for smaller tasks, such as making dumplings, tortillas, etc.
