I've always loved pie, but the making was often a chore, especially with arthritis. With my VF pin I feel like I am gliding across the dough...amazing. Grab the pin and a pastry cloth, and I can roll out a large double crust in 2-3 minutes, humming all the time. Love the size, love the weight, love the silky feel of the polished wood in my hands. It is a little small to work any dough of consequence. It works well if you are working with a very small dough. This might be a pin to have if you are developing quiver of rolling pins. Not to be used on drum heads.
I didn't realize how long I'd been waiting for the item that would tie together my fervent twin interests in percussion and pastry. Every time I roll out puff pastry, pizza crust or cookie dough, I marvel at this elegant tool and laugh a little at the vaguely stupid confluence of Vic Firth's hands and my leisure life.
I love this rolling pin.

Have used this rolling pin for cut-out cookies, pie crusts, etc. It is very easy to use because it does not have any handles that "turn" when you're rolling out your dough. The length is perfect and it seems you don't have to use as much pressure on your dough to get it just right.Customer Review: Another great pin

I use this pin for rolling out pie crusts. Granted you can use it for more then pie crusts, for me this is more comfortable to use and get the desired thickness. The shape itself kind of helps in rolling dough out into a circle. I also bought the other maple pin by Firth w/o handles and use it for all other doughs; biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cookie dough etc. Both are great to use and the cost is reasonable enough to own both!!
