My compliments to Totally Bamboo and Amazon for carrying such a quality product - I highly recommend it. The shipment arrived promptly, and the block was well packed and protected. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe how beautiful - and brawny - this block is. The pictures don't do it justice. It is extremely well made - tightly crafted, very smooth and silky to the touch, substantial, but not too heavy to easily lift and move. The legs are just the right height and the rubber feet hold it nicely in place. It gives a very satisfying "thunk" when chopping - and dicing, slicing and mincing are a joy. Very easy care - wipe with hot, soapy water or vinegar and treat with wood oil as needed. Goodbye, wimpy acrylic and rough wood............hello beautiful bamboo! I give it a big TEN and will be purchasing more Totally Bamboo products.
Description of Totally Bamboo Butcher Block, Large
Every kitchen should boast one of these butcher block cutting boards. Measuring a good 19.5-in. x 11.75-in., this unique bamboo cutting board is hand crafted using hundreds of tiny laminated bamboo strips. Unlike most other hardwoods, bamboo absorbs very little moisture and consequently does not shrink or swell as much, making it a superior choice of material for cutting boards. It is 16% harder than maple, which means less visible knife marks keeping the cutting board looking brand new for years to come. Handwash with a mild dish soap in warm water and periodically wipe with mineral oil to bring out the beautiful grain of the bamboo. Do not put it in the dishwasher or let it soak in water.Why bamboo? Bamboo is actually a grass that grows to a harvestable height between 3-5 years. Some species grow up to 2 feet per day. After harvesting, bamboo does not require replanting. Bamboo has an extensive root system that continually sends up new shoots, naturally replenishing itself, making it one of the most renewable resources known.Fast-growing in nature, bamboo is also fast-growing in popularity as one of the most environmentally friendly, renewable resources available. This professional-weight cutting board comes from Totally Bamboo's aptly named Chop collection.
