Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan Intak Hydration Water Bottle with Meter, BlueCustomer Review: A worthy water bottle Summary: 4 Stars
As someone who seems to be amassing a water bottle army inadvertently, this latest addition to my lineup has me slightly impressed. While I love the look and build quality of the stainless steel bottles from Klean Kanteen, I found myself unhappy with the caps. The "2.0 Sports Cap" makes a loud and VERY annoying 'whistling' sound when you drink from it. How could such an error get past R&D? So I set out to find a bottle that didn't attract scorn from those nearby every time i needed to refresh myself, while still maintaining my standards of material and build quality.
As an urbanite who walks sometimes for hours each day, a decent water bottle is essential. I need something that can hold around 20oz of water without being too heavy or bulky (i'm looking at you, KOR ONE!) I've been using the Thermos Nisan Intak Hydration Water Bottle (whew, what a name) for a few months now and have few complaints.
First, the body: The shape is a little abstract, not something you usually see in a water bottle. The ribbed gripping side seems more for aesthetic appeal than to help you hold onto it, but whatever. It looks a little more interesting than most bottles, so I guess that's a plus. I opted for the Blue model, and think it looks great. It's BPA-free, which is really important in a plastic bottle else you poisong your water with nasty chemicals. Like all bottles though, keeping water in this for more than 24 hours can impact the taste some (even steel bottles have this problem), so do keep this in mind.
The cap: The real selling point for me on this bottle was its cap. It is designed so that you can very quick access you water without having to worry about the cap getting dirty or letting contamination inside, and it does that very well. Just push the button, the top flips up and you can drink from it worry-free. When closed, a rubber piece attached to the top of the lid fits snugly in/around the spout, preventing any from spilling out. You can toss this bottle into your bag without worrying about it leaking. It's great!
If I had a complaint, it would be that the button on the lid requires SLIGHTLY too much force for 'popping' the top. But better it be ultra snug than too loose, right? The lid also takes a fair bit of pressure to close, making driking from it one-handedly kind of a non-option.
My search for the perfect water bottle continues, but in the meantime, I think I can get by with this!
