This tumbler will keep a drink hot for at least 2-hours without any pre-conditioning. Also keeps drinks cold this long too even when left in a hot car. I now have this 18-ounce for my home and a 14-ounce for the office that I use only for coffee. Any problems with the flip top is offset by the fabulous insulation of these tumblers. Great buy! I originally purchased one of the tumblers about 10 years ago and just recently misplaced it so this purchase is a replacement. After the original was lost, I experimented with several other aluminum tumblers that looked similar and cost less, and they were OK, but they just do not hold a candle to the insulating quality and durability of this model.
I read some negative reviews about this unit before I placed the order. I agree, the top plug (through which one drinks) is not designed to be water tight seal so that can sometimes present a problem, but that's a trade-off I'm more than willing to accept for the superior insulating qualities and general durability of the unit.
Another negative issue mentioned related to the rubber seal in the lid and it was never a problem for me in the old unit, but I am pretty picky about cleaning the the thing after I use it. I never had any mold build-up or foul smell. I can only speak for myself, but I suspect this is a case of folks not properly cleaning it after use. Sort of reminds me of the carpenter that blames his tools.

I read all the reviews and decided to buy this and give it a try. Most reviews were about how great this was for coffee and hot drinks. I use mine for Diet soda. I will not drink it if it is warm and watered down. This tumbler keeps soda cold for at least 10 - 12 hours with ice left inside. Love it! There is only one problem with this mug. After I bought one, I had to buy another because my girlfriend promptly stole mine because she liked it so much. If you warm the inside with hot water first it will literally keep coffee warm for up to 4 hours. Lid screws on securely with a rubber seal to prevent dribbles which makes washing my dress shirts easy. This mug is worth every penny.
