Customer Review: Bacteria grows under both seals

There are two putty-colored seals on the mug: one under the lid that seals the lid to the body's collar, and another that seals the collar permanently to the stainless steal body. After a year of daily use and washing by hand, both seals hid bacteria underneath. I squeezed a cotton swab along the seals and black, inky liquid seeped out.
I used a Water-Pic to squirt water with some bleach under the seals to sanitize them. I have abandoned casual hand washing in favor of my scalding hot dishwasher.
I have had occasional minor mouth sores on the inside of my lower lip. I can't definitively blame the mug, but I still have my suspicions that the mug's bacteria might be causing the mouth sores.
I'm going through this ordeal because I LOVE USING THIS TUBBLER! ****

My husband and I have owned our Nissan 18 oz Thermos for well over 6 years. I bought mine because I was so impressed at the great job it does at keeping drinks cold for LONG periods of time. I put ice and water in it at bedtime, and what's leftover in the morning is still icy cold and still has ice cubes - very little melting. As for hot drinks, we have the same result - keeps hot drinks hot for hours. The lid has a flip open tab that keeps the drink sealed until you want a sip and then flips back with ease. My husband had a previous coffee tumbler from this company which he received as a gift. He loved it. He raved about how long it kept his coffee warm and how it fit in his hand. However, after a small accident (he forgot it when he set it on the tandems of his semi and ran over it), he could no longer use it. I didn't hesitate to replace the tumbler as I knew from experience that it was high quality and well made. This mug is well worth the money (just don't leave it on your truck tires). It is extremely durable and will withstand dropping and will continue to outperform other tumblers in its class.Customer Review: Best Tumbler you will ever buy

My wife bought one for me a few years back. Loved it. Kept the hot drinks hot for a while (even in the cold weather of the midwest) and kept the cold drinks cold. The flip top drinking opening is great. Of course there wil be some spillage is you turn the tumbler on it's side or upsidedown, but c'mon, you can't have it all. The point of this tumbler is to keep your drinks the way they should be for a long period of time, in a fashionable manner.
I bought two more of these items after thinking I lost my original tumbler. I found that my father-in-law was using my Nissan Stainless steel tumbler everyday himself. So I figured to buy a couple more for my wife and I. You wont be dissapointed!!

I've tried so many different kinds of drink tumblers for the car that I've lost count. For some reason I bought two of these and I'm so glad I did, they're great. Many tumblers sweat so bad when filled with ice cubes that I have to keep napkins at the bottom of the holder and a towel in my lap. If I find a mug that doesn't sweat, the insulation makes it so huge that it has a hard time fitting in the drink holder.
The Nissan has never sweat once. I fill it with ice at 6am on my way to work, refill it from the office water cooler all day, and when I get home at 7pm that night I've still got some of the same ice still in the tumbler that I left with that morning...AMAZING!!! I have a hard time getting excited about many things, but this stupid tumbler makes my 1-1/2hr drive every am & pm a bit nicer. Thanks Thermos...
