We have used the hotshots for many years. This is our fourth. It is not as substantial as the older ones and tends to "bend" forward when you dispense the water. I just threw out my 2 yr old Sunbeam Hot Shot as it was pouring water that tasted liked boiled plastic!! It was just awful. It had been great until then. As other reviewers said it is convenient, easy to use, and has a small footprint for a kitchen counter.
I, however, use rather large mugs even if the hot shot only make about 12 oz of hot water I like the feel of a large mug. Well only a 1 1/2 cup measuring cup will fit under a Hot Shot and that is not high enough for a large mug, so you use the measuring cup and then pour into your mug, that is inconvenient for me. I also like the Hot Shot type of water heater to disperse after it has finished boiling the water so I can set it up go take a shower and when I am finished I have a steaming cup of tea all set to drink. This one - you need to stand there and then disperse when finished, then wait until your tea, coffee, whatever is finished steeping. Small issues, I agree, but you should know before you buy this.
Would I buy it again - yes - if I cannot find one that dispenses the water upon boiling.

This is the 2nd product of this type I have purchased. One for my home and one for Camp. When I make tea or coffee, I have only one cup, and don't have to wait forever for the water to boil on the stove. It is also great for heating water for Instant Oatmeal. This is just so convienient. I love the Hot Shot. It heats water so quickly and quietly. My husband uses it every day. Before we got a Hot Shot, we used a pan that got ruined by boiling water in it on a daily basis. We have had one for years and this one replaced the one that just broke. I hate to say it wasn't the heating element that went bad on the old one. The top broke off and we had it for over 13 years! We bought this as a gift for my aunt. The Hot Shot is used many, many times in my family on a daily basis. We've been using them for years - as a matter of fact, I just ordered 3 more - one for a sister getting married, one for another sister, and a spare to have on hand for when this one wears out - we can't go a day without using it.
