This is a marvelous appliance because it is just so darn simple! I bought one to keep in my office at work for making tea, and it has worked out great!
There isn't even an on/off switch. Just put water in it, plug it in, and a red light goes off when it is ready to pour. Put a mug under the dispenser, push the lever, and there you go!
One reviewer said that it does not have a fill-to line, and so water can spill over. I don't see this as a problem. Just heat as much water as you need. I fill up my mug with hot water, pour the water into the appliance, and dispense the water when it is hot back into the mug. Oddly enough, I get out exactly the same amount as I put in! Don't try to heat more than 16 ounces at a time.
The Hot Shot does only one thing, but boy does it do it well! Easy to use, simple to clean, and attractive on the counter. Love having hot tea without fussing with heating water in the office microwave!

Every home should have a hot shot hot water maker. I use it for tea every morning. At lunch I heat water for cup a soup. It's good for hot choolate, instant oatmeal, etc. Water heats fast.Customer Review: Excellent Machine

I use this machine several times a day to make tea and it makes the water the perfect temperature to make Jello correctly also. Tastes much better than microwaved water. I suggest you use bottled or filtered water so you never have to clean the machine.Customer Review: Excellent Product

The Sunbeam Hot Shot is an excellent product. It heats water in seconds and shuts off automatically after heating. No need to worry if the coffee pot or tea pot is turned off when leaving in a rush. I love it! I would like to see it sold in more stores.Customer Review: Excellent Product!

I purchased this for my Grandma. She has Maculuar Degeneration and is technically legally blind. She loves having her tea though and is very independent! That's why this is perfect! She knows where the buttons are and with her pre-measured cup we never have to worry about her burning herself. Great product! Also, I purchased one for my classroom at school. It is prefect for when I want a cup of tea during the day. It comes in handy when I need hot water for something in my classroom too! FYI - A friend found out that you NEVER put milk in here!! It scorches and burns the inside! Smells bad too!! Other than that...AWESOME!
