This is a delightful device.
I am British, and familiar with using a kettle and tea pot to make tea. When I moved to the USA, I got into the habit of heating water for my tea in the microwave and using a tea bag in a cup. I assumed the slightly different taste was just due to the water (a big variable in tea taste). Eventually I tried tea made using my friends hotshot, and it seemed better, so I bought one, and I am very pleased that I did.
It is quicker than a kettle, because you only need to boil the water you use, hence there's usually less water to boil. It is extremly simple to operate too. But, the real test for me is the taste, and Tea Tastes Better using water from the Hotshot than from a microwave. I assume it's either oxygen retention or mineral conversion, I really don't know, but if you are a long time tea drinker, you'll notice a difference.
For a good 'cuppa' boil extra water and warm the cup, or microwave the cup. I use the plastic lid from Dunkin Doughnuts to retain the heat in the cup when making herbal tea. I'd give the Hotshot 5 stars if there was a nice little tea pot that fit well and complemented its looks, then I could have a perfect cup of tea made with real lose tea.

I have had a Sunbeam Hot Shot in my kitchen for years and given many of them for gifts. We use it almost daily. All it does is heat a mugful of water to boiling. We use it for instant coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate mixes, spiced cider, instant oatmeal, ramen noodle soups and just about anything else that all you have to do is all hot water to. We have worn out several but they do last for years. This is one of our most used appliances and an excellent gift.Customer Review: A must for your kitchen

This is one of the most used and best kitchen items I own. I wouldn't be without it and I use it multi-times during the day. Who needs an expensive Japanese Air Pot when the Sunbeam heats 16oz of water to boiling in less than a minute and one half. It's speed out performs electic kettles and the microwave. I use it mostly for heating water for coffee and tea but also use it to jump start liquid concoctions while the electric stove burner is slowly (UG) heating. The Sunbeam hot shot beverage is one of the most practical easy to use electrical items I purchased. It is also economical.
The two things I would like to know before purchasing is the capacity - 2 small cups or 1 large mug of hot water and the length of the electrical cord - 25 inches long.
Overall I think this is an excellent item to have, and is probably best for a single person or college student to have while living in the dormn.

When I first saw this item I thought maybe 3 minutes for 2 cups of hot water I bought it 45 seconds and bam STEAMING HOT WATER! I LOVE IT!! I took it on a few trips and it worked great! RECOMMEND WOULD BUY!
