Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sunbeam 5891 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker, WhiteCustomer Review: Actual Size Summary: 5 Stars
The actual size of this bread maker is 11W x 16L x 12.5H inches. I went to Wal-Mart and measured one. Needed to know in order to find a place to store the big fella.
The Amazon description is over 1000 inches in all dimensions, say what? Is that the freight container? Even if those are millimeters, it's still way off.
Customer Review: Affordable, decent breadmaker Summary: 4 Stars
We haven't bought a loaf of bread at the store since buying this little machine a few months ago. So far, it's worked quite well. Even whole grain bread usually rises and turns out pretty well without any modifications to the cycle. Certainly, nothing has broken yet. We were so impressed with the value for the price that we bought one for my parents as a gift. If you're looking for a good bread machine on a budget, this is the way to go.
Customer Review: After one year Summary: 1 Stars
I bought mine last March and have been making a loaf of bread just about every week. Today it made its last loaf, the motor was straining to turn the paddle.
Positive: The price.
Negatives: LCD is next to impossible to read. Made to be viewed by someone under 5' tall, I over 6'. Bread crust is over-cooked, even on the light setting. It never wanted to make a great loaf of bread, no matter how hard I tried. To load the pan I had too pull the machine out from under the cabinet and turn it so the lid would open wide enough for the pan.
I'm tired of messing with this machine. I have 3 weeks left on the one year warranty, and won't waste my money shipping it back. My previous machine cost $180, but it lasted 7 years. This one was $40, and lasted one year. Add me to the never again group on Sunbeam bread machines.
Customer Review: All my loaves fall Summary: 2 Stars
I had been baking bread from scratch prior to this purchase, but didn't want to spend over $200 for a bread machine. So after having bought a bread machine at a local thriftstore that had to be returned because it didn't work once home, I decided to try the Sunbeam. The reviews seemed pretty good, and it's affordable. But now that I've tried it, I have to agree with the person who wrote the second review and am also amazed that we both seem to be the exception. I have tried every combination I could possibly think of, including making loaves with both active dry yeast and quick yeast; breadmachine flour and regular flour; adding even gluten flour and baking soda. Still, every single loaf has fallen at least 3". Also, the manual states that if one wants to turn off the default instant bread warmer feature, to hold in the start/stop button until it beeps. This feature doesn't work on my machine.
On the positive side, the loaves are tasty and the texture is nice. But we probably won't keep it. I guess it's true; you get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Always Makes Great Bread Summary: 5 Stars
I love this bread maker. It is so easy to use and hardly any clean up mess. It always makes full fluffy bread. I use the Gold Medal Better for Bread Flour (unbleached and unbrominated) along with bread maker yeast. I always measure perfectly for consistent results. Absolutely delicious! Highly recommended.
