Customer Review: Buzzing Sound, Loose Door, Slow Cooker & Broke Down
Summary: 1 Stars

This is an update to the Sharp R-216LS. I bought it in August 2008 and I wrote about it in 2008 (see below). However, as of today, July 24, 2010, the microwave stopped working--it no longer cooks the food, and I smelled smoke come out of the compartment and it rattled so loud, I thought it was going to explode. In less than two years, this microwave broke down--and I only used it about twice a month. I will never buy another Sharp microwave, and I highly advise you not to waste your money on this one even though you can't help the fact that it looks so nice on the counter top.

2008 review: I do not recommend this microwave. I have to say that this slightly pricey microwave, compared to other brands and models, look really classy with its shiny touches. It's a nice looking microwave, but that's about it. This microwave gives off a loud buzzing sound during cooking and the door is a bit loose around the hinges. The door can literally be shaken while the door is closed. Another issue I have with it is that it cooks much slower than the microwave I have at work. When I cook a TV dinner platter, the food is never heated in accordance to the time the box says it should cook (even when I use the maximum recommended time). When I microwaved the same type of TV dinner at work (a smaller microwave model), it cooked at the minimum recommended cooking time. With this Sharp R-216LS, I always have to add an extra minute to the recommended cooking time--a waste of energy. Luckily I don't use the microwave for much except once in a blue moon TV dinner.

Customer Review: Cheap junk.

I can hardly wait until Boeing moves its manufacturing plants to the Orient, can't you?

I bought this thing because a web site told me that Sharp still made its microwave ovens in the United States. Wrong. My specimen is from Thailand, and I wish it had stayed there. Rickety at the best of times, the carousel turns like it has arthritis. The power settings seem to have been imbued with decision-making powers, and the thing is LOUD.

Next time, and it will be soon, I will opt for a more expensive, Japanese model.

Customer Review: Cheaply made!
Summary: 2 Stars

Same problems some other reviewers have mentioned. After 4 months of use, the clock/timer timer display started showing only the lower half of the numbers. I've had this microwave for a year now and the display issue happens for awhile, then goes back to normal, sporadically. Another issue: I'll punch in a time of 4 minutes, and sometimes when pushing "Start" there's some hitch that adds ten minutes to the time - so if I'm not paying attention, I've just annihilated a dinner for 14 minutes. I promise this was not user error - it's a definite glitch. Also, the plastic coating over the menu buttons has worn through on a couple of the numbers - after only a year! I've had other microwaves for years at a time where this never happened. As far as actual cooking, the unit itself works fine.

Customer Review: Compact MW
Summary: 5 Stars

If you need a MW can fit "IN" your top (hang) cabinet, which 14" deep, this pocket size MW is the best one. Ideal for a small family, or a single person. Great for small dishes.

Modern, sleek and neat look is also a plus.

Customer Review: Compact and works well
Summary: 4 Stars

The microwave functions superbly and I have no issues with how it functions. This is definitely an appliance which is better suited for younger buyers with excellent vision and hearing.

It's beautiful and fits my limited counter space perfectly.

The are, however, two minor issues which kept me from giving this microwave a 5 star rating. The readout is black against a dark grey, and while I can make out the the numbers, anyone whose vision is compromised, like my mother's, can't see them at all.

The second issue is when the timer goes off, I can barely hear the high-pitched beep. Sometimes I can't. Thankfully my dog asociates the timer's beep with food and she alerts me.
