It is a gimmick that doesn't work very well. I used too much corn meal and it caused a lot of smoke in the oven. Maybe, if I use just a little mineral oil and corn meal, it will work out. I had more problems with the pizza peel than I had with the pizza stone.
Description of Sassafras Rectangular Baking Stone
For making the crispiest crusts on your pizza, nothing works as nicely as a clay stone. Because it's made of clay it retains heat better and maintains an even cooking temperature from the center to the edges. The clay material also absorbs moisture ??? thus, a crispy crust. Made for baking pizza, it's also great for baking flat breads, rolls and focaccia.Updating the historic tradition of stone baking for today's household kitchen, Sassafras offers a baking brick boasting even heat distribution and moisture absorption. Dry heat generated from stone produces crispier crust making this ideal for preparing pizza but its baking properties make it equally appropriate for breads and cookies. Although microwave- and convection-safe, the stone's 13-by-15-inch size makes it best suited to the traditional oven. Lifting and transporting are simplified with the included metal rack designed to fit snugly without slipping and provide two handles. Stoneware care consists primarily of avoiding thermal shock--extreme changes in temperature--and hand washing with hot water. It is best to avoid using cleaning agents as the stone may retain and pass on a soapy flavor.
