Customer Review: Be careful if you give it as a gift

I bought this scale for a friend so he can make pasta. It's perfect for cooking -- he can weigh out flour, and the plastic bowl comes off to dump the food wherever you want. Easy to wash and easy to store (it fits inside itself).
But, if you're going to give it as a gift, be warned it says "diet scale" on the box or something like that. My friend thought I was implying he should go on a diet when he received it in the mail. I had to explain that I meant it for cooking/baking.

I decided to live a health lifestyle about a month ago, started lifting weights combined with cardio but didn't really pay attention to what I ate (nutrition-wise). In order to calculate calorie intake precisely, I figured I needed a kitchen scale and I didn't want to spend alot of $$ for this item and that's when I found this. I almost got the $25 scale that's out there on amazon.com and I'm so glad I didn't. I just received this today, and it's a perfect size scale to prepare well-balanced meal.
What I care about spending most of my $ is what goes into my body (food, cosmetics, lotion, etc), you don't have to spend tons of $ to start eating right. Just start off with getting this cheap without the cheap functionality kitchen scale. Weight is very precise for a 5 dollar scale. 5 stars. Not recommended for people who eats big portion because this only weights up to 500g/16oz which is perfect for me.

I was looking for a compact, economical scale to use around the kitchen. I didn't need anything of professional grade so I decided to try this scale out. I am very pleased with this scale.
Pros: All I can say is that it does its job pretty well. I particularly love how the storage container doubles as the scale bin, making it very easy to store. This scale is made out of plastic, and it looks like it will last quite a while.
Cons: If you like to add ingredients then adjust the scale, it will be quite tedious with this scale since you have to manually turn the adjustment knob many many times...
I would definitely recommend this scale to any amateur cook.

I bought this because I needed to weigh some ingreedients for a cake I was making, and, living in a small town, had no other options.
Five bucks is a fair price for this thing. It measures accurately, if you don't mind getting on eye-level with the counter to read it. Setting it to zero is kinda a pain, as a full twist of the knob only moves the needle about 1/8 of an ounce. But, if you're in a pinch or have low expectations, this thing does a fine job.
I've got a Baker's Dream scale on it's way to replace it, because this little thing just does not meet the needs of anyone who needs a serious cooking scale. But I suppose that's not quite what it's designed for.
Decent, does it's job, very small. Good enough if that's all you need.
