This is a great whistle. It is easy to change the pitch. You can hear the whistle it is not 100% silent, but to your dog it sounds really, really LOUD. I just got mine and am teaching my dog to come from long distances without me having to yell. I HAVE SPENT NEARLY 5 HRS INVESTIGATING, AND RESEARCHING FOR THE BEST SILENT DOG WHISTLE. AND THIS ITEM CAME ACROSS. PRO'S CHOICE AS I TRAIN POLICE K9, AND SECURITY K9. THIS DEVICE WILL DO MORE THAN ENOUGH TO COVER UP TO 2 MILES IN QUESTION WITH SUPER HIGH PITCH FREQUENCY SOUND THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR BY OUR HUMAN EARS, BUT THE DOGS CAN HEAR IT~! YOU GOT TO KNOW HOW TO TRAIN DOGS FIRST INORDER TO MAKE THIS WHISTLE AFFECTIVE OF COURSE. JUST LIKE CLICKER TRAINING, YOU HAVE TO ASSOCIATE THE SOUND TO REWARD, AND RESPONSE. GRADUALLY, YOUR DOG WILL LEARN WHAT EACH SOUND REPRESENT, AND RESPOND ACCORDINGLY. I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND ACME, AND REMINGTON DOG WHISTLE. THESE THREE ARE MY TOP CHOICE~! Total crap. Bought 2 of these, thinking they were real. What junk, no reaction from either dog no matter how the "whistle" was adjusted. I was hoping for more, thought Amazon would screen out rip offs. They should dump this vendor.

The best rating I can give this device is three stars. As a former teacher I see that as average. It makes the noise it's supposed to make. No more, no less. Nothing special happens. It gets a "C".
I bought the whistle in hopes that the ultra-high pitched sounds it produces would be heard by my aging dog. Well, I guess she's too far gone. But then, none of the dogs in the neighborhood responded when I blew on the whistle. So I really don't know what works best, my dog's ears or this inexpensive whistle that neither my dog nor I can hear.

this is a fairly good whistle. i say fairly because it isn't silent, but it is pretty quiet. after you've trained your dog to respond to it you shouldn't have a problem getting your dog to come to you after it dissappears somewhere.
