Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pomerantz Wine Wizard Tabletop Wine Opener, Black/Chrome

Customer Review: Does the job & built well
Summary: 4 Stars

1) It does the job without much effort
2) Fairly folid construction...the weakest point is where the adjustable shaft locks down with a wing-nut type clamp, but careful use should avoid any problem. The metal parts are cast light alloy...could be used on a motorcycle ;-).
3) They give you an extra cork screw...cool
4) The suction works if you wipe a smooth surface [eg, stove top] with a moist sponge first
5) "Made in China" is hard to avoid these days...so I can't fault them for that.
I took a star off for the weak joint & tempermental suction...overall, it is a great value and does what it's supposed to do!

Customer Review: Fautly suction mechanism
Summary: 1 Stars

My wine opener worked beautifully for about four weeks. Then the suction mechanism broke. Without this, the device will not stay in place on the table and makes it impossible to use. Disappointing.

Customer Review: Mine broke after about 5 uses...
Summary: 3 Stars

The first time I used this opener I thought, "What a great opener! The leverage is great!" The 2nd-5th time it pushed the cork into the bottle each time and the last time I used it the adjustable neck broke.

I gave it 3 stars because I fully intend to return it and perhaps the next one will work better.

Customer Review: Nice, but be careful
Summary: 3 Stars

First of all, its' a great price, but like the title says "be careful" with it. Mine broke at the vertical adjustment. If you buy this item, be sure to lift the lever straight UP (not back) and the leverage is better. This is how I broke mine (after about 20 bottles opened) It would be helpful to place the opener on a surface lower than a kitchen counter for the best leverage.
I found the vacuum base so weak that I usually didn't bother with it.
Would I buy this again? Probably not. Considering how much I enjoy wine, I am going to spring for a higher quality opener.

Customer Review: Perfection!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not sure what the last person was talking about, I was worried.. $9.99 has to be cheap plastic.. WOW! Not even, were stepping up from a normal hand held (not plastic) solid model. This had a solid handle and frame, didn't suck onto our tile, but works in the stove top and other areas. God forbid us using our minds. Good enough and wow, so easy. I have many friends who have the cheap plastic hand held ones, well you get what you pay for, well not in this case! Really solid, took it to all the holidays parties, everyone wanted try it.. mmmmm wine. I'll gladly make a video or send pics of how GREAT it is.
