Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CRF-950Z 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 3-Pack

Customer Review: BUYER BEWARE!!
Summary: 3 Stars

This item is actually great. But, beware. Iordered this item thinking it is going to be the CRF-950L like they advertise. But I was sent out the CRZ-950Z instead. They are the same filter, except that the L as a monitor top as it says in the description and the box has the word Ultimate on it. The 950Z has neither feature. Again, they are the same filter (as far as I can tell), but this is not what is advertised nor what I purchased. I am now on my second return with Amazon and will continue to return it untill they send me the correct item.

**EDIT 10-28-06** Well I have returned this item several times and got no where with amazon. The item was supposedly unavailable the last week or so and now has been brought back with a different picture and is now listed as a 950Z. But, beware the description still list it has having a monitor. The 950Z does not have a monitor to let you know when to change the filter. This is not the first time that I have noticed discription problems with Amazon. Though neither were so bad that I could not use the items, they were just not as expected or slightly off as described.

Customer Review: Best Price over Target
Summary: 5 Stars

Silly me just bought this three pack "on sale" from Target. It was $6 off from 29.99, making them 23.99. Then I got home on Amazon and see where they are $19.99.

I'll be taking the Target ones back! as I go there all the time.

Note: these filters work well. There is no "indicator" on top like they used to make...don't even know if they make those anymore. But they do include a "stick-on" calendar thingy that shows you a two month window of when they are supposed to be good. The sticky works fine...you just have to remember to take it out of the box and affix it to your jug. But it tells you exactly when you started and should end using that filter....

Customer Review: Best Value
Summary: 5 Stars

Our water has a strong chlorine smell so I searched for a filter that would take all of the impurities and smells out. I tried other filter systems on the market before I found the Pur System. I have used the Pur water pitcher for about 3 years and I love the way it makes my water taste. These filters are really a great value. I searched many web sites and Amazon has the best price for the replacement filters. Since I started shopping at Amazon I always check here first.

Customer Review: Beware of Lead Contaminates!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

My wife and I spent time in a town where the lead levels in the water are elevated from the plumbing in the old Victorian houses. The PUR filter claims to reduce lead significantly. But our physician found elevated levels of lead in our blood. We traced the source to the water, which we HAD BEEN FILTERING with PUR filters. The elevated lead levels most likely were the cause of a miscarriage we had.

We simply didn't understand how we got lead from the water since the PUR filters claim to reduce lead significantly. After a long bit of research I discovered that the PUR filters reduce soluble lead, but not lead particles (which is what our water contained).

So be sure to know if the water you filter is contaminated with lead. If so, find out if it is contaminated with lead particles (which PUR does not filter out) or soluble lead (which it does).

Customer Review: Called Procter & Gamble about the missing Monitor feature
Summary: 2 Stars

First off, I want to thank all the reviewers for having called to our attention the missing monitor feature on the new version of this filter.

Like many others, the advice of replacing the filter every "one or two months" is of little help--our use varies greatly. These filters are not cheap!

I called P&G: they say the monitor was often inaccurate so it was removed. They stick to their "replace filter every one/two months." HOWEVER, they also say: "replace the filter when you notice it takes longer than usual to filter a pitcher's worth of water; the filter will not leach impurities, simply begin to clog up and take much longer to filter the water."

Considered switching to Brita but PUR filters out many more impurities than Brita.
