Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CRF-950Z 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 3-Pack

Customer Review: Ambivalent...overstates how long the filter will last.
Summary: 2 Stars

I know...There are already over 400 reviews for this product and the chances are that I'll add to this discussion are slim to none. Despite this, I'll proceed.

For years I've thought to myself...at what point does the filtration slow down so drastically it takes over 4 hours to filter one pitcher of water? I drink a lot of water throughout the day so once this slowdown occurs, I have to make sure I keep filtered water stocked to account for the lag. I've lived in the same place for 6 years and have used PUR filters for about the last 10 years. I still prefer PUR to Brita as I appreciate not having to dodge little black filter flakes.

I use these filters with the oval pitcher. I've been keeping track of how often I fill it, and at nearly half way to the 40 gallon benchmark is actually when the speed of filtration slows from a good clip to a snail's pace. I don't know why this happens, so quickly...I'd expect to get 75% to the 40 gallon mark before the huge slowdown occurs, but this is apparently wishful thinking. By the time the filter is 75% used, it takes over 6 hours to filter the pitcher.

I'd ask that PUR re-evaluate their claim that this is a useful product up to 40 gallons. If you have to wait 6 hours to filter a glass of water, I'd say it's time to get a new filter.

My second complaint is what so many others before me have pointed out. They did away with the handy dandy indicator and instead decided, based on consumer feedback (yeah, right), that the sticker was a better idea. This is utter hogwash. Everyone's water usage varies...if you buy a lot of bottled water (as many people in the city do), your usage may be less than someone who uses this exclusively to fill a canteen. The 60 days the sticker claims the filter will last is more than double the time it takes for me to filter 40 gallons using the same filter. Speed of filtration is also a good indication of how close the filter is to the end of its life, but 60 days is rather generous...from the point of view of my usage, the sticker is completely, utterly useless. The indicator took into account usage vs. just time (and was therefore not only more accurate, but just plain accurate). Getting rid of the indicator was just a stupid, stupid, stupid, did I mention stupid thing.

It may be time for a change from PUR.

Customer Review: An downgrade from previous version?
Summary: 2 Stars

I have been using PUR for 10 years and have seen several generations of PUR filters. The last generation is the one with orange indicator that tells the life of the filter.

Now, PUR has smartly integrate this indicator inside the latest version of filter, where the filter will stop filtering (water stop dripping down the container) around the 60th day of usage! Now I have to rush to buy another replacement filter..., what a hassle!!

Customer Review: Another outstanding Pur product - Good price for 3-pack
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned Pur pitchers for a while now after switching from Brita. I highly recommend the Pur Pitchers and Pur filters for the ease of set-up, ease of use and outstanding tasting water! As a runner, I drink a lot of water (5-6 24oz bottles a day) and am very picky over my quality of water and water taste. Coming from Brita filters, I am now a firm believer in Pur Filters as they easily out-perform and out-taste Brita with our well water here in Gainesville, FL and our new house in West Palm Beach.

At set-up, I followed the directions on the box for preparing the filter for 1st use and it went without a problem. Each filter change has been exactly the same, no bad filters. Good filter flow. I still own both Brita filters (for the sink, want to upgrade to Pur) and Pur (water pitchers) and I can easily tell the difference in water taste. The Pur filters are 2 stage filters (while the Brita filters I have are not) and the quality of taste is worth buying Pur over Brita. I now use my Brita filter for cooking water only and use Pur for all my drinking water needs. Because of how much I love the Pur water, I now own several Pur pitchers including a smaller normal pitcher that my husband takes to work with him and the larger fridge pitcher. No complaints with these filters, each have performed great for us.

Highlights:
* Clear difference in taste and noticeably better than Brita. Takes horrible West Palm Beach city water and gives you sweet, crystal clear water that does NOT leave an after taste. Unbelievable! Side by side using new filters, my Brita could not compete. Does the same with average Well water.

* Easy set up. I followed the filter directions to a "T" and have NO flow problems with any of the filter replacements. 2 stage filters will always run slower than a 1 stage, if you are coming from a 1 stage Brita to a 2 stage Pur.

* Great price for a 3 pack. Depending on how bad your water is and how much water you drink, these filters easily last 1-3 months. You can taste when they are ready to be changed and even in my household of constant water drinkers, my filters last roughly 2 months before I feel the need to change them.

* Each filter is individually packaged which is nice to keep the future replacement filters fresh, and not dried out.

Customer Review: Arrived as described & expected
Summary: 5 Stars

Been using Pur for a long time & this 3-pack replacement came just as I expected. As stated in earlier posts, there are no timers on these filter but I can easily live with that.

Customer Review: At least I got a bad one
Summary: 2 Stars

The one I installed was fine for the first a few Liters, then water cannot go done even though when there is space in the pitcher. Haven't tried the other two but hope those are working fine. Plus, trying to find the contact information and it took me a while and not explicit at all.
