I recently bought this filter for my dorm bedroom as I was very displeased with the Brita in our common kitchen. The Brita does not filter out all of the contaminants that the Pur does, also the L.E.D. indicator is a much better reminder to change the filter than the cheap stickers that come with the Brita. If better tasting water and a better filter change reminder aren't enough, the Pur looks much nicer for approximately the same price as a comparable Brita.Customer Review: Better water, awful design utility

The PUR filter seems to be a great improvement over the constant flaking of carbon from the Brita and the water is noticeably fresher tasting. However, the design, while looking sleek and attractive, does not serve the user well. The engineering is faulty, with little thought to how the weight of the water when pouring shifts the stress on the plastic, causing the pitcher to have obvious weak points for fracture.
Additionally, the design lacks any quality features to allow for ease of removing the lid to refill the holding chamber. This becomes a challenge to get the lid removed without breaking the plastic. On one hand, the designer created a lid that can stay on while pouring, on the other, it can take several minutes to pry the lid off for refilling. Overall, A for the filters and F for the design of this pitcher. Folks at PUR, it is time for your engineers to combine form with function. Because I like the filters, I am going to try a different PUR design.

I second what the other reviewer said...it cracks on its own...the worst part is, PUR said it's not covered under warranty because it's a "wear and tear" item. It sits in the fridge... They kept me going in circles and after the 30 day satisfaction guarantee expired, they then told me I could have returned it within the first 30 days but now it's too late. For a product based on the razor/razor-blade business model (I'm sure the real money for them is made from the filters, not the pitchers), this is a horrible way for them to deal with the situation. Oh, and I had another one leak within a few weeks. The water is makes is great, but if I wanted crack I'd either call a cable tech/plumber guy over or go to Columbia.
