Customer Review: Still happy after all these years

I got mine at a thrift shop at least 6 years ago. I make at least a loaf a week. I have tried many recipies and the only one I did not like was the basic white bread in the manual. Every other recipe in the manual we have tried was worth making again. I am considering getting a new machine because the rivited bracket on the pan, that snaps into the machine, broke. It still works, but rattles a bit. I know someday soon it will die, although it has been going this way for 3 months.
The loaves are horizontal, but tall. The countdown (timer) feature is great. When I know I will be gone all day, coming home to a crock pot and bread machine full of ready food is calming. However, I can expect pockets of flour in the corner, as it only mixes thouroughly when I push the corner ingredients to the center during the first few minutes of the cycle. (These flour pockets have never noticably effected the overall outcome of a loaf.) The nonstick coating n the pan is still great. The coating on the kneader is pretty well shot. The machine is large, but I think all bread machines are large. The squared off back makes it fit nicely (as much as possible) on the counter.
Definitly a good machine for the price. I am considering upgrading, but cannot tell if an upgrade will be enough of an improvement to bother. It is a great machine for my family. Our 4 girls think that the 58 minute white loaf is the best.

I purchased this Oster 5838 ExpressBake Breadmaker in January 2007 to replace an old unit. I was amazed when I started to use it. The machine is so quite and that features are excellent. Although it is a bit on the large side "luckily I have a huge counter" it's perfect and affordable.Customer Review: Oster Bread maker 5838

Once received, I strictly followed the instruction for the 2h baking program.
The machine ran for 8 min exactly, then I heard a big noise and the mixing stopped.
In fact, the machine is not working anymore...
Brand new and worked only 8 min !! Can you believe that ???

I got this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He has made four loaves so far and they are delicious. He is like a professional. I did a lot of research and this breadmaker was the best for the money. I am very happy so far. While reading reviews on other sites about this product, I read that the medium setting on crust color was dark enough. I agree with this and would be afraid that the dark setting would burn. Haven't tried it but just a word to the wise. I recommend this breadmaker to anyone.Customer Review: Great bread maker

I've had the Oster for a little over a year. It's the first and only bread maker I've owned, and I'm very happy with it. I make one or two loaves a week, and haven't had any problems with it. It's easy to use, has several settings, and a delay timer. The recipes in the book use readily available ingredients and turn out well. I bought one for my daughter Christmas '05, and for my son, Christmas '06. Although they don't use them as frequently as I do, they are both happy with them. For about $50 (at Kohl's), they can't be beat.
