Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4716 Egg CookerCustomer Review: Damn good poached eggs. Summary: 5 Stars
Oster 4716 Egg Cooker This gadget works great! As one reviewer wrote, let the eggs set out for awhile to warm up. This works well, but to keep from over cooking you can also use just a bit less water as others have stated. Other than that, you'll figure it out by the secound or third try. Hard boiled eggs are great as well as poached eggs. I have not tried soft boiled eggs yet, but it seems to hold true to what others have said... Let the eggs warm up a bit, or add less water for the perfect egg! Hard boiled are the no brainer in this case. Just pierce the large end, use recommended amount of water and you'll be good to go! (No warm up time needed.) Just remember to remove as soon as the light goes out, for all types of eggs this product will cook. And un-plug it to remove any fear of it somehow staying on. And one more thing... Use a vegi spray for the poached eggs or they WILL stick! I tried a olive spray at first, but the taste just dosen't go with the poached eggs. And be liberal with the cooking spray. It's healthy, and will make the eggs much easer to remove as well as protecting the poaching tray. Jim.
Customer Review: Danger - Watch Your Cooker Summary: 1 Stars
After several lovely experiences with this appliance it decided to fail to turn off when the water was gone/the eggs were done. I heard odd popping sounds which turned out to be the plastic lid melting into the base. I'm fortunate that I caught it before there was a fire or other major disaster.
Use caution, folks.
Customer Review: Defective and dangerous Summary: 1 Stars
Oster egg cookers have been in our family for about fifty years. But yesterday this one was turned on accidentally, probably because a grocery bag was bumped into it on the counter. In the couple of minutes it took to find the source of the terrible smell, the lid had melted into the base. The cooker should have turned off automatically because it was empty. In addition, the on-button should be recessed. The older models had glass lids, which would also have prevented this problem.
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
Oster 4716 Egg Cooker
For Easter, the eggs did not get hard when I attempted to hard boil them for decorating.
Initially the egg poacher worked the first 2 times I attempted to soft cook the eggs, but it does not cook them to the soft stage anymore. The white of the egg is not done enough to eat.
I asked my neighbor to try it and see what luck she had. Same bad luck. I would not recommend this to anyone.
Customer Review: Disappointing Egg Cooker Summary: 2 Stars
I ordered this product based on the reviews that were available at the time. I was sorely disappointed. There is no measuring cup, so all water amounts must be estimated (the unit has three "lines" to help, but nothing that denotes how much water to use if you wish to cook a specific number of eggs); there is no buzzer when the unit is finished, so unless you babysit it, everything ends up overcooking. This is a great unit to avoid purchasing unless you plan to always cook 8 eggs at a time and want them all hardboiled.
