Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4207 Electric Wine-Bottle Opener

Customer Review: A Hail Mary" that connected brilliantly
Summary: 5 Stars

My son always tries to find something interesting for my various obsessions on my birthday, and, since I'm not much of a gadget lover, my techie son often comes up with presents that look great but don't really work that well in practice. This time he found a wonderful present that works very well indeed.

We've used our version on 60 bottles, cork and artificial, some as old as 40 years and a bit brittle. Every single cork came out cleanly and without a bit of trouble. It won't work for champagne bottles, of course, and if the cork was really in bad shape, I would use my wine steward's helper instead.

But for the great run of wine bottles, this device worked brilliantly for me. It is much, much easier than any corkscrew I've ever used, and I'm sure I've opened well over ten thousand wine bottles over the years, using a variety of openers.

The buttons were initially counter intuitive to me. I soon learned to seat the device carefully and tightly over the top of the bottle and press the button down until the cork pops out or is easy to lift out. When the cork is out of the bottle, press the button "up" which will lower the cork off the screw.

The cork screw is made of excellent metal; it doesn't appear to be replaceable, but it can be sharpened with a small file. There is an excellent foil cutter included, which mounts nicely in the back of the unit. Finally, it looks much more expensive than it is, so it will make a great gift to some of my wine loving friends.

I'm a great believer in screwcaps for wine, but my wine cellar still holds a preponderence of corked bottles (unfortunately in both sense of that word). I'm very grateful for this gift that makes opening wine bottles simple, easy and fun.

Customer Review: A Limited Cork Puller
Summary: 2 Stars

This battery-operated cork puller is a whiz for fast, effortless cork pulling, but only with natural corks. Multiple attempts with plastic "corks" didn't work. The screw would not penetrate the dense, platic material.

Customer Review: A convenient new product
Summary: 5 Stars

The rechargeable Oster wine bottle opener works like a charm. We are prefetly delighted with its ease and convenience of operation.

Customer Review: A favorite gift item
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are looking for a gift for someone but don't want to spend a whole lot of money, I suggest the Oster electric wine opener. It works perfectly (I've had mine for years) -- only two buttons. How can you go wrong? If you want to spend a little more money, pair it with a nice bottle of wine. But in my opinion, the wine opener itself is a perfect gift.

Customer Review: A good opener
Summary: 5 Stars

No problems with this one, and it looks good too. It does tend to lose it's charge rather quickly if left off the charger (completely dead after a full charge and two days off the base station).
