Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, SilverCustomer Review: 13 years of hard service and still kicking Summary: 5 Stars
Maybe I got lucky: 'Planned Obsolescence' being what it is, perhaps one of these made today will not be the same quality as the one I bought 13 years ago. But I bought this blender in 1997, and have replaced the ice grinding blade once, and now must replace the plastic collar at the base, because I dropped the glass carafe on the floor, and it bounced, did not break, but the collar and blade popped off... because the plastic collar had broken, yet the glass was unharmed.
About a year ago, I smelled that bad familiar smell of motor windings going, and feared I would soon be shopping for a replacement. It did lose a little power. So I have been babying it along, still grinding ice, but pulsing and pausing to stir down, instead of just running it straight like before.
Still getting granitas and mudslides out of it, just fine.
It also has been put to hard use grinding table salt into 'superfine' salt which I keep in a jar and use on popcorn.
Definitely one of the kitchen workhorses I treasure, but again, that's the model bought in 1997. I can't vouch for current manufacturing.
Customer Review: 16 years of use and still going! Summary: 5 Stars
This blender has seen me through making baby food, milkshakes, and whatever else. Makes good baby food. My babies would not eat store bought baby food after being spoiled with baby food made on this blender. It is made in the good old USA too. Motor is still going strong after all these years. They don't make stuff like this anymore. Blender is sitting on kitchen cabinet right now and I can still use it right now if I wanted too. Back then price was $80.00, a little high in price for that time. But look at all the years of use I have received. This will pass down to my daughter upon my death. If you see a used one for sale-grab it.
Customer Review: 19 Years & Counting, This Blender's Built to Last! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased my Osterizer Classic blender just short of 20 years ago. After 19+ years of frequent and heavy use, it's still going strong. Forget the instructions about hand-washing, I have always thrown the glass jar in the bottom rack and the small parts and gasket in the top rack of the dishwasher. The only issue I have ever had with this blender was replacing the rubber gasket (perfectly understandable after years of use). If you want a real workhorse, the Oster beehive is it.
Customer Review: 2 speeds off and high Summary: 2 Stars
Good for smoothies, terrible for soup
Even with the lid tightly closed and my hand holding it down, the soup ran all over the counter
Could be improved with a low setting.
If the smoothie is too thick, the blender will dance around in a circle twisting the cord around it.
Must be used with hand holding down the lid.
Does make good smoothies.
Customer Review: 4th time's the charm Summary: 5 Stars
I've burned through 3 other brands of blenders -- each time the plastic "spinner" in the motor base (which mates to a plastic spinner in the pitcher's base that turns the blade) broke. Finally we decided to try out the Oster "Classic" because it uses a metal shaft that fits directly into the pitcher's base to turn the blades rather than the plastic disks that all the newer blender designs seem to use. That does the trick. I make a lot of fruit smoothies using frozen fruit -- which can be pretty hard on blenders -- but so far the Oster Classic has been up to the task. I highly recommend it!
