I purchased this item before I had knee surgery and I found that it works as described in the instructions. It doesn't hold forever but it is easy to re-attached it whenever you see the red indicator.
If you take a second to check that it is secure BEFORE getting into the tub or shower, you should be fine.
I still use it even after my knee finished healing because it is handy.
