Unfortunately this lamp only takes a 40 watt bulb, which doesn't produce much more light than a nightlight and the dark colored shade doesn't help. We found a 40 watt florescent bulb that is supposedly equivalent to a regular 150 watt bulb and that makes the lamp useable. We added other lighting to the room to compensate.
We kept the lamp because my 2 year old daughter is crazy for Dora and loves the lamp. She especially loves pulling the cord to turn it on and off. This is very easy for her to do.
