Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of NatureMill Pro:White - Indoor Compost SystemCustomer Review: Convenient Composter Summary: 5 Stars
Have used it for about a year now and it works well. We keep ours in the garage near the kitchen so it is convenient to put food scraps in it after dinner. It does hum a bit but don't mind since it is in the garage. It produces about 1/2 to 1 gallon of fairly rich compost every couple of weeks with our moderate fruit and vege eating.
Customer Review: Don't buy it..... Summary: 1 Stars
Great idea but the product just doesn't work well. First of all, it's loud, Be prepared it is always humming, and it's loud. My wine cooler is silent but the composter sounds like a truck... (ok, maybe not that loud, but it is noisy). It also jams so easily, like all the time. You need to put gloves on and with your hands fish around the try to pry things off the blade... I have had it for a month and still haven't been able to get it to work, jams every day and I put in tiny chopped pieces of soft vegtables.... I just don't get it. Oh, it is smelly, even though I followed the directions, put in baking soda, wood chips, still stinks. Besides all that, it's poorly built. Don't buy it, it's too expensive and really doesn't work.
Customer Review: If you wanna be green.. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my Naturemill pro from the naturemill.com website with a group order discount. I received it two weeks later. Its ready to use right out of the box. No need to assemble anything. The manual is very easy to understand. It comes with sawdust pellets and baking soda, so you don't need to go out and buy anything. Its very simple to use. I plugged it up on a Thursday and by Sunday, the stuff is already looking like dirt. It has a low whirring noise but its not loud or anything. The kids even like composting now!
Customer Review: Long Term Review Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my NatureMill Composter for 3 years- basically I was an early adapter and got this as soon as it came out. I actually had to wait until they had them ready to go.
Usually being an early adapter you run into problems and breakage very early on but that was not the case. All I did when I got it was read the directions, plug it in and it was going. I have never really run into any problems with odor, etc but i think that is due to following the very clear directions with great suggestions that came with the product.
I have used it in my kitchen as well as my attached but not heated garage and it has done fine in both locations. The reason I switched from kitchen to garage was not due to any issues with the composter- it was a dog issue as he managed to open it a few times and eat the contents.
Over the three years I have run into a few little issues which I did not have a big deal with since I was an early adapter. Now with most companies if something breaks within the first 90 days, you may get them to help you. Me, I ran into some issues 3 years later and they did not try to get me to throw it out and buy a new one by making a replacement part some astronomical number, they emailed me, called me and get this- charged me only $15 for a new motor. (BTW motor replacement took me only 5 minutes) This company really cares about their customers. That is not something you can say often today. They seem to really want to offer a good product and good service and most of all they have respect for their customers. I cannot say enough nice things about them.
Customer Review: NatureMill sending upgraded unit after 4 circuit-board burnouts Summary: 3 Stars
UPDATED Nov. 19, 2010: Our unit, which we owned less than two years, blew four circuit boards. Kevin Frye, our primary service contact, took very good care of us by sending two replacement circuit boards after NM replaced the original board when we went the unit back to them (two boards failed subsequent to that repair). Fingers crossed for the new unit. When it works, it's quite handy. We noticed hardly any odor and not much smell (depending, of course, on the composted contents). You do have to watch the moisture and white mold by diligently emptying the container after composting particularly moist "ingredients." The mixing process can be a little loud, but the unit generally produces just a gentle hum. All in all, handy for use in the kitchen or in an urban dwelling.
