I looked at all the retractable clothes lines listed on Amazon. They are all made of plastic, so they are all relatively inexpensive. I settled on this one because it had a metal mounting bracket and I hoped it would last longer than one that was all plastic. Each line is 48' and can be pulled out separately and hung at the same or different lengths or not at all. I mounted it on the patio that has support post at 10 feet intervals and I used a screw at each post as a support. The line just feeds over the screws. I have not had a problem with sagging. As others have pointed it is critical to wrap the line around the support bracket on the case, starting with the end that is used as the clothes line and ending with the part that retracts back in the reel.
There are some weaknesses in this device, but at this price it is hard not to have design compromises made. The mounting plate is metal and it is made of two pieces. One piece is permanently mounted to the reel. The other half can be detached by lifting the reel. This half is mounted on the post or other support. There doesn't seem to be any way to lock the reel to the mounting plate after it is installed. I accidentally bumped the reel after it was mounted and it fell to the floor and split wide open. No much glue holding it together and the plastic case cracks easily. A little wire put it back together and it works well so far. The lines are plastic coated and it is easy to pull out. Just don't drop it.
Description of Retractable Dual Line Clothesline, 98'
Belgium Design. Each line extends to any length up to 49 feet (15m). Together, 98 feet of clothes line is enough to carry 2 laundry loads! The polished metal bracket mounts on any hard surface that can take a mounting hole and screw. Install the screw hook up to 49 feet away on a sturdy wall joist. Hardware is included. Simply pull out the line and slip the loop over the screw hook. To hold the line taught at any length, wrap the line around the cleat molded in the bottom of the case. To rewind the line, just remove the line from the cleat and lift the loop off the screw hook. The reel does the rest! The case is made of a high-impact, pastel blue plastic. The reel inside stores vinyl-coated, 0.14" diameter, polyester clothes line neatly and tanglefree. Case and lines wipes clean with a damp towel. Use indoors or out.
