Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of SkyBox by Maytag Personal Beverage Vendor, Pitch Black

Customer Review: AWESOME PRODUCT
Summary: 5 Stars

Great product. A personal beverage vendor for the home is such a great idea and to have backlit panels to display sporting teams is really smart - GO GEORGIA BULLDAWGS! My SkyBox works perfectly - cools fine and never jams. Actualy if ou look at the eningeering simplicity of their vending system - it is a stroke of genius (vends bottles and cans and a cinch to load). The stand was a snap to put together - make sure you follow the directions - attach the front feet, then the frame, then the metal panels with screws. I read where Maytag has an alliance with a company that will be making custom branding kits. Pretty cool! I'd love to see them add rock bands, movies (e.g. Matrix, WallStreet) and other beers than the Bud family and Coors.

Well, done Maytag!

Customer Review: Amazon "Wait-List" Diss by Maytag.....
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered my Skybox through Amazon almost 5 months ago and still have not recieved the unit. I happened to be shopping at my local Home Depot today, and guess what I saw in the appliance section - a Skybox! It was actually the first time I've seen one in person, and it looked pretty cool (although the display unit was not operational). I grabbed a sales person to inquire if they had any in stock - and to my surprise they had 6. My first thought was to cancel my Amazon order and have the unit in my hands today. I asked the sales person if he had received any feedback from customers of the unit - which he stated he had not (this cooling issue is weighing heavily on me - I want cold beer!). After telling the sales person I wanted to check on cancelling my order with Amazon before I bought the unit from them, he mentioned that they have a functional Skybox on display next to the customer service counter. Wow, what luck I thought! I headed over to the customer service counter and there it was - it even had an NFL insert and installed on the stand. I hit the button, and out drops a Dr. Pepper! I reached for the Dr. Pepper, and to my surprise it was luke warm - or cold, depending on how you look at it. It definitely was not cold enough for me. It was at that point I decided to not cancel my order with Amazon - in the hopes by the time my unit arrives Maytag will have worked out the cooling problem. I guess that my biggest gripe of this whole process is that Maytag seems to have put all us Amazon wait-list customers on the back burner - while shipping all the completed Skybox units to Home Depot for their highly publicized joint sales venture, even though we preordered the unit way before Home Depot's launch (March 1, 2004).

Customer Review: Better idea
Summary: 1 Stars

Even better than the skybox--buy a used soda pop machine from someone who works for a vendor company or a bottler company. Much cheaper and gets cold within seconds. Very little electricity is used.

Customer Review: Cold Drinks but Jams Sometimes
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had my Skybox for a month. The fan works fine and the drinks are cold. All sodas and If you want really good beer and have the money buy a kegerator (fresh beer from the tap). The only problem that I have is the machine jams sometimes. I've been real careful loading it but for some reason it still jams. It's easy to fix but I'd rather no jams since I spent $500 on the thing. It's real heavy too. I did not buy the stand I just put it on top of my small refrigerator in my garage. I got the Dallas Cowboys panels and Gerogia Bulldogs panels a week after I ordered them...good job there. Also I got about 15 beverage cards with the machine (no beer cards but that's OK since I have the kegerator). I just wish it wouldn's jam as much.

Customer Review: Constant repairs
Summary: 1 Stars

This has to be the worst product that Maytag has released. Items Jam too much, takes 4 months for maytag to repair products. Doesn't cool and sucks up electricity. The 1 year warranty is nice but the unit will need an extended warranty because it will be in the shop 75% of the time you own it.
