Customer Review: Solid but has problems

This is a solidly built machine. When you open the glass lid, it has the well built feel that Maytag is famous for. You can also tell the quality by listening to it run. Finally, it has a wide range of cycles and that is important to my wife.
But this machine is not without its problems. The major problem I can see is the hot and cold solenoids open and close so rapidly, they bang the pipes in the house. They also don't just open once at the start of the cycle, they continually open and close during the entire fill cycle. Ours is up in the master bathroom above my office and it sounds like a shooting range. Another problem is when you select a hot wash, it start off ice cold and then turns to hot about a minute into the fill, and finally warm. The end result is you end up with a warm wash even though you selected hot. I don't want to have to shut off the cold water everytime I want a hot wash but it looks like that is what needs to be done with this machine. Finally, the main control knob is very flimsy. You can move it quite a bit and it knocks like something is loose inside. I can't see it lasting the life of the washer and those are expensive to replace.
Overall, I love a lot of features on this washer, but I don't think I will buy another Maytag in the future. They should know better than to put out something like this. We are seriously considering returning this washer for a refund.
