Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mario Batali Salt Cellar

Customer Review: Poor construction
Summary: 2 Stars

I went through 3 of these salt cellars. Every one had the same defect to varying degrees. All of them had a split in the lid. Not a gap between the lid and compartment, but the wood was actually split at the hinge. From the reviews it looks like not all have this problem, but I did, and 3 times to boot. I love the design, but wasnt willing to try again, I am convinced all of them would have this problem sooner or later.

For those wondering why you need 2 compartments - The big one is for cooking salt (regular kosher salt or coarse sea salt) and the smaller one is for finishing salts (fluer de sal, smoked salts, various other fru-fru salts which, yes I do use)

Summary: 5 Stars

This little kitchen treat is awesome. I didn't really want to pay the price, but I love it now that I've got it.

Customer Review: Salt Cellar
Summary: 5 Stars

A nice addition to any kitchen where a family appreciates a couple of the better sea salts, i.e. one from the French coast and another from the cold waters off the Maine coast. The magnets inbedded in the covers keep the salt from spilling and yet open easily to get a pinch for cooking. Bottom line: We like the product.

Customer Review: This Thing Is A Beast
Summary: 1 Stars

Unless you shop for salt by the 5lb bag at Costo, this salt cellar is way, way too big...I mean Mario Batali big! This monster would take up too much of my precious counter space. I'll admit the construction seems good, but, I shipped it back to Amazon the day I received it because unless you are Octo-Mom, you would probably have to fill it only once a year.

Customer Review: This is a must for any cook.
Summary: 5 Stars

No clumping and easy storage for two kinds of salt. I put sea salt in the top and kosher salt in the bottom. The lids slide with ease. For the price, this is a steal.
