Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mario Batali Salt CellarCustomer Review: Bought 2 - 1 cracked Summary: 4 Stars
I loved the design of this salt cellar and bought two (thinking I would have one always near the stove and one for the dinner table). While I do still love the design (enough to come back to replace one), the inherant problems with wood in a kitchen is splitting due to the grain - 1 has split and 1 is perfect.
Weight is perfect for one-hand use and holds about 1/2 cup on bottom and less than 1/4 cup on top... perfect for iodized salt and kosher salt at hand. LOVE the magnet closure.
I love this design enough to give 4 out of 5 stars and repurchase, because I can't really fault the manufacturer for wood's tendency to split and I am in very-dry-Colorado.
Customer Review: Crack in wood Summary: 3 Stars
The product is beautiful and larger than expected. However, mine arrived with a crack in the wood. The crack is at the point where the top is attached to the middle unit so I'm afraid that the product will fail in time. I wish "celebrities" would be more careful when attaching their name to a product. I wonder now if all Mario's product are as sub-standard.
Customer Review: Disappointing all around :-( Summary: 2 Stars
I was excited to find a salt cellar that wasn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. My sister bought one from WS and paid $50 for hers and it only has 1 compartment.
Here are my negative issues:
#1 - I found that it was HUGE. Although I would have been happier if it were smaller, the size was something I could live with.
#2 - The layers were separated from each other making a space large enough for bugs to get in. The cover on my sister's cellar sits FLUSH to the base.
#3 - The magnets did not work. One of the magnets was so far into the wood that it didn't even catch the magnet on the cover.
I thought that with Mario Batali's name on it I would be getting a quality product, however I was mistaken. It's being returned in today's mail.
Customer Review: Great Item Summary: 5 Stars
Works perfectly, and allows you to have two types of salt in the container; doesn't always close tightly, causing a little bit of salt to spill out, but that's just part of cooking, so it's no problem at all. I definitely recommend this item. Some have said that it's too big, (about the size of a 28 oz peanut butter jar), but I find it to be the perfect size for a kitchen counter. Great item for any home cook who wants to control the salt content of a dish. Enjoy!
Customer Review: Great Salt Cellar! Summary: 5 Stars
I love my NEW Mario Batalli salt cellar! It holds a lot on the bottom section, for my coarse Kosher salt and the top part, I put my Grey salt or sea salt. The price for a wood salt cellar was really great, and it matches my wood pepper grinder. It keeps closed, when not in use. Has a great look in your kitchen.
