I bought this for my father for Christmas. He loves making margaritas, but could never get his blender to shave the ice well. This blender shaves ice perfectly and comes with some great drink recipes. I have the larger version that I also use for smoothies, but this size is nice for every day use if you have limited counter space, or as a gift.Customer Review: BEST MARGARITA'S IN TOWN

Summary: 5 Stars Our goal in buying the Margaritaville was to be able to make all kinds of icy drinks. It does this very well. What we discovered is that it can also be used to make snow cones.
There are two components. An ice shaver that will turn ice cubes into small shavings, and a blender. The ice shaver sends the crushed ice into the blender for processing. Each side has it's own switch to operate them independently, or there is a button that will turn your concoction into a slushie.
Although the product is made for personal use, it appears to be made well enough to make multiple drinks at a time.
It is a good idea to clean it when you use it, so be careful wiping out the top portion; or you will get cut on the ice shaver. Otherwise, it it not too hard to clean.
If you put in too much ice compared to liquid, the blender will freeze and stop working. It does not seem to hurt the motor, but you have to finish mixing by hand. So make sure you mix up the stuff you put in the blender before you put in too much crushed ice.
We have used our machine to make margaritas, shaved ice with fresh lime squeezed over it, and various fruit smoothies using fresh and canned fruit. It has been a great way to get through a hot summer.

If your desire is to make 36 oz. of your favorite frozen beverage, this very well may be the device for you. However, if you just want to make, say, 12 oz., it's not so easy. You see, It's programmed to shave the appropriate amount of ice and properly blend 36 oz. of beverage. If you need less, you basically have to do everything by hand, and it's a bit of a pain to get the portions correct. The next model up (DM1000) will allow you to choose between 12, 24, or 36 oz., but it costs at least
$50 more. Due to that, and the fact that I can make a similarly mixed beverage with the crushed ice from my freezer and a normal blender, I decided to return this device and not purchase another.
Another thing to keep in mind is the height of this device. It's 19 inches tall, and may not fit under your counter, or anywhere convenient, for that matter. And the next model up is even taller!
