Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Magic Bullet Express 17-Piece High-Speed Blender Mixing SystemCustomer Review: 5 Stars for the Infomercial, 1 Star for the Product Summary: 5 Stars
If you have not seen the infomercial, you're missing out! The characters are absolutely hilarious:
Mick: British guy that shows everyone how the Magic Bullet works/Favorite Saying: OUTSTANDING!
Mimi: Ecstatic girl that also shows how the Magic Bullet Works/Favorite Saying:
Berman: Fat, bald, and sarcastic loser that thinks that everyone thing is horrible/ Favorite Saying: Yuck, I hate brocolli!
Ethal: The old, weird-looking lady with crazy hair, pajamas, and a cigarette always in her mouth/Favorite Saying: Dinner's always a production!
And the Others: 2 other fat guys, an ugly-looking lady that smiles at everything, and a lady that always believes that her kids will "never know".
Not only that, but add it with HORRIBLE acting, disgusting food, and the Magic Bullet itself and you get an "Outstanding!" for the infomercial!
But a "Yuck, I hate the Magic Bullet!" for the product...
Customer Review: 5 stars if built better w/ better warranty! Summary: 3 Stars
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine. It doesn't do everything, and that silly infomercial on t.v. is ridiculous, but there are certain things that this machine does really well:
Salad dressings. This machine is great for emulsifying salad dressings. We eat salad a lot more often now.
Smoothies. I don't add ice to my smoothies. But I keep frozen fruit chunks in the freezer and a wheat germ/ground flax seed mixture in the fridge door. I make a smoothie nearly every day for breakfast or for workouts. The Bullet makes a great smoothie.
Blending eggs for anything. If you want scrambled eggs, throw a few eggs in the Bullet with a little water, milk or cream and a dash of salt. DON'T add veggies in. They get liquified and just gross. Chop the veggies by hand. Or if you are making muffins or cookies (or, or, or), mix your wet ingrediants in the Bullet and pour them into the dry ingredients.
What is NOT good about the bullet:
It breaks down. My original motor was defective. The base had problems on two separate occassions. Those plastic gaskets come loose and get chewed up into your food. (I had scrambled eggs with plastic gasket pieces once. I wouldn't recommend it.) And they charge you for shipping even when they honor the warranty. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT handy. You will be talking with customer service often. If it just wouldn't break down so often I'd give this product 5 stars. I honestly use it at least 3 or 4 times a day, and I've had it 9 months now.
Still, find one on sale. Full price is too much. I bought one yesterday for $30 (after xmas sale), and I'll use it for spare parts. It is cheap enough where even if it breaks down, it will have had a useful life. Just be patient and keep that customer service # handy.
Customer Review: A BIT DISAPPOINTING Summary: 3 Stars
When I recieved my Magic Bullet, I was more than thrilled to start using it right away. When I started to "blend" my ingredients, the bullet did nothing more than swirl around the ingredients. But after awhile, and a little tapping here and there, it began to work a bit better.
My Other concern was that when I just wanted to pulse the bullet, it would get stuck and continue to "blend" long after I wanted to end the pulse.
Besides the two above complaints, the Magic is not half bad. It mixes ok, but I wouldn't pay $60 for it.
Customer Review: A Bad Product With a Great Infomercial Summary: 2 Stars
I totally agree with the person who wrote the review below mine. When I first saw this infomercial, I started cracking up. I mean the people were so funny, butwere terrible actors. They made up a bunch of funny lines for these people to say. Berman's hilarious. He does not fit in with any of those people at ALL! He bald and has sidesburns. Everyone else there, besides the lady with the cigarette, seems like they're rich or something and are like married. Berman seems like he lived on like a farm. That's why he probably hates brocolli so much. As for the product, I'd rather just buy a cheap blender and a jucier. I've seen other reviews people have left, and most of them say that the magic bullet left mush after they used it or didn't do things as it had showed on the commercial. Like in the commercial, you see Mick and Mimi making this thing look so easy. I'd probably buy this thing if I knew it work. I'd actually want to try to use it just for fun to see how it worked. But it seems like one of those products that seems to good to be true, and will take more the 10 seconds to use. I think it's a waste of 100 bucks right there. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the infomercial. I wanna see another one with those exact people in it. The magic bullet one was so funny! My two stars go out to you!
Customer Review: A Great Little Blender Summary: 4 Stars
According to the Amazon data base, I purchased the Magic Bullet in March. It is hard to believe that I've been using this blender at least twice every day since. I have used it primarily as a "frozen" drink maker--some would call them smoothies, I call them meal replacement drinks. I have also ground coffee beans to an espresso grind; made pesto, salad dressing, and use it to mix the wet ingredients for my seitan.
What I have learned: the heavier ingredients need to go into the cup first and then the lighter ingredients, whatever they are. When making pesto, this means that the nuts go in first, followed by the cheese (especially if you are using a chunk of cheese as opposed to shredded) and then the basil. If you are using olive oil, it should actually go in last. The reason for the importance of the order is that the blade, while it is put on top of the cup, is actually the bottom of the blender. Putting the heavier ingredients into the cup first help insure smoother blending action. The only time that the heaviest item should not go in first is when it is sticky: nut butter, molasses, etc.
My meal replacement, aka breakfast and lunch, is made from Blue Diamond's Almond Breeze, Unsweetened, Original, 32 oz.-- I use both the original and chocolate flavors depending on the other ingredients. I decided, some time back, that I did not like using ice cubes and began freezing the almond milk in ice cube trays. It works wonderfully well.
Breakfast Smoothie: So, into the cup goes:
about 4 cubes of frozen original flavor almond milk
2 oz of Torani Syrup, Sugar-Free Vanilla, 25.4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 3)
4 or 5 oz almond milk
1 tsp Stash Japanese Matcha Powdered Green Tea, 1.06-Ounce Tin
1 tsp Source Naturals Spirulina Powder, 16 ounce
vitamins (I add acidophilus and Vitamin D)
1 scoop Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein High Protein Energy Meal, Vanilla 2.4 Pounds
a couple more cubes
4 oz almond milk
Blend until smooth. Yes, it is green but oh so tasty! And for kicks & giggles, I always use the green ring with my green drink.
When I make a chocolate drink, I do not add the green schtuff--but I may add berries. I make a drink before bed as well and always add my calcium powder (have you noticed that calcium tablets are horse pills?).
When I make pesto, I leave it in the cup and use the "storage" lid. I have found that it keeps very nicely for about a week.
What I do not recommend: While grinding coffee beans was successful, I was a bit concerned about the motor burning up. It may be because I was grinding the beans to an espresso grind rather than a drip--as they show on the infomercial. I also do not recommend grinding large quantities of cheese. Truthfully, it is questionable as to whether it is faster than using a box grater. I have also tried to grind medications and calcium tablets. It takes a very long time and the pills never really got powder smooth. They also stay "stuck" to the bottom of the cup when blending into a drink.
Advice: remove the rubber gasket for cleaning. When using berries, the seeds can slip under the gasket and cause a mess. Also, when using the Magic Bullet for mixing anything with oil or fats, I recommend washing it in the dishwasher (top shelf). I had no luck cleaning the "grease" out; however when blending just about anything else, it is very easy to clean with just water and a drop of dish soap.
Yes, I will buy another if/when this one dies of over use.
