Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)Customer Review: Disappointed. Summary: 2 Stars
I'm disappointed. I've been using soap nuts now for a couple years and they are wonderful for lots of uses, but these are very messy and look old to me. I can't make my powdered cleaner from them. They would make a big mess of my blender, and I don't know what I would end up with. I don't think I want to know. I won't use them in the wash bag in my laundry for fear they will stain my clothes. They are so black and slimy and they stick and leave a mess on everything. I don't like them. I paid more for these than usual, too. What's with that? I'll stick with my regular brand which is hand sorted. It was a mistake to change. I'm boiling these to make my liquid cleaners. They seem to be fine for that. I've been trying to dry some out some for a week, but they are still rubbery and too messy for me. :-(
Customer Review: EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for an eco-friendly way to do laundry when I came upon Maggie's Soap Nuts. They seemed a little strange but got great reviews so I tried them. I can't tell you how much I love this product!!!! I put 4 nuts in the little pouch that was included and was able to do five loads of laundry. My clothes came out so soft and clean--I was amazed!! No more artificial scents that irritates my allergies and no more chemicals that breaks out my skin. I'm definitely going to order more!!!!
Customer Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a sample pack of these to try them out and fell in love with them. My clothes have never been so soft. I am now ordering it in Bulk. My husband even comments on how soft his clothes are. For a little scent on the clothes I would recommend Essential oil ( I use Lavender) that can be put on a damp cloth when you put them in the dryer.
Customer Review: Fabulous natural soap Summary: 5 Stars
We have been using the soap nuts for about 3 months and love the fact that we have found a natural product for washing which also saves us using fabric sheets in the dryer.
Customer Review: Fragrant like a wet dog? Summary: 3 Stars
My nuts came in a cellophane baggie that was not sealed, in a box where the glue must have been water soluble and had dissolved. Nothing was missing, but the packaging was surprising. I simply put my nuts in a ziploc baggie and am now almost done with my supply. I am concerned about the quality and consistency of this product, but cannot say that my experience has been at all bad. Yes, there is a slight vinegar smell when the nuts are fresh, and the smell goes away after a few loads, upon which I replace the nuts.
I have not noticed any particular "whiteness," but my dark clothes are DARKER (no white "sheen" from being washed). And my T-shirts that had acquired the white "sheen" are looking more bold (I guess that's the word). It could be my imagination I guess.
Well, I actually do not dislike this product. I only used the 50-pack, and have just put in an order for another competitor's product that I'd like to try out.
**AS FOR THE SMELL**
I used to hang dry my clothes to save energy. But when I moved into the rental house I recently vacated, I could not get the wet dog smell out of my clothes unless I put them through the dryer. At that time, I was using unscented Tide with Bleach.
My landlord later replaced the laundry units and guess what? The wet dog smell was gone! Hooray! I had assumed it was related to the water system or water source, but it was actually some disgusting goopy brown rusty stuff in the water line going to the machine.
Note that even consumer reports has concluded (surprisingly) that many big name detergents do not work any better than plain water--other than adding fragrance. So if fragrance is what you want, then soap nuts are just not for you.
Good luck if you try the product!
