Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron WokCustomer Review: Best wok I could get for the outdoors. Summary: 5 Stars
If you need a wok for that camping trip or just for the home, this is the bad boy you should get. I have several woks but this one will be my front line unit for cooking at home or in the field. As an Army cook I could have used a unit ike this to feed the men in the field. If you need a wok, this is it.
Customer Review: Cash Iron Wok Summary: 5 Stars
This wok was all I hoped it would be and more. It can be heated to a very high temp without damage. At such temperatures, dinner can be cooked in about 10 minutes or less. It makes the electric wok I used to have seem like a child's toy. It arrived in great condition, but then, it's cast iron--how could it do anything else? My daughter has already indicated that she wants one of her own when she moves out to go to college. I am very happy with this product and cannot say enough good about it. I can cut my vegetables, marinate my meat or tofu, and store in covered dishes in the 'fridge until I get home from work. When I come home, I turn on the fire under the wok, change clothes, then get the pre-cut food out and start cooking. 10 minutes later, a tasty dinner is on the table! I wish I had bought this years ago! I clean it after it gets cool with soap and water-no dishwasher, dry it, then lightly oil it and store it in the oven. Can use steel wool if needed. Easy, easy!
Customer Review: Cast Iron Is Heavy, But Is The Best Cookware. Period. Summary: 5 Stars
This wok is truly great. I've had it for over two years now and it is one of the most used pieces of cookware in my kitchen, even over most of our All-Clad and Calphalon pieces. It is heavy, but it is cast iron, man! It is supposed to be heavy. Well, my wife does not like how heavy it is but she too loves to cook in it. We use it for everything imaginable; stir fry, deep fry, soup, browning...you name it. This is a great buy!
05/2009 - An update. My family have been using this wok for over 5 years now and I can report that it is now a beautiful black, completely nonstick wok and remains one of the most used items in our kitchen for a variety of uses (not just stir-fry). No problems ever with any of the materials and it continues to improve with time. At only 5 years old, this cast iron piece is still just a baby. The only down side, it is still heavy, which does not bother me at all, but my wife still does not care for that, but when she wants to use it I will always get it out for her. In fact, 75% of the time, it stays on the stove-top ready for the next meal as we use this so often, at least every other day. A quick rinse under the hot water faucet while the pan is still hot and a wipe with a paper towel cleans it quickly now. A quick wipe down with a light coat of Pam on a paper towel after cleaning it out and it is protected until next use, and that oil film then adheres to the surface upon the next pre-heat adding to the nonstick properties. Whats not to love? It is a simple thing.
Customer Review: Cast Iron Wok Summary: 5 Stars
Some say it's heavy, c'mon...what did you expect from a Cast Iron Wok?...It's big (don't drop it on your foot!) and you will need two hot mits to handle it, but it makes awesome food. Be sure to follow the conditioning instructions to the "T", especially the part about a THIN film of oil.
Customer Review: Cast Iron cooking at a great price Summary: 4 Stars
I received this as a gift and have already put it to use several times. If you are looking for a heavy weight wok, than this is the one. I have an electric range and it sets nicely on the burner and I've found that if I leave it to heat up for about 5 minutes before adding anything in it does really well at maintaining its heat. I do recommend seasoning it before using it the first time. I wiped mine down with regular Crisco and set it in a warm oven (250-300 degrees) for about an hour. After cooking that first time I did season it once more just to get the cast iron broken in a bit quicker. My favorite recipe is Chicken Stir-fry and if you're interested in it please check out my guide for it along with some other items that go great with this product.
