Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MIU Stainless-Steel Potato PresserCustomer Review: Best Mashed Potatoes Ever Summary: 5 StarsIf you want lump free mashed potatoes, this is the perfect gadget for you! It also makes spaetzle quite easily as well.
It sits well ontop of a bowl which is important in a potato ricer. Easy, Easy, Easy to use, and easy to clean if you do it right away, a little more difficult if you let set out for a while with out soaking it. The extra discs could be stored a little better, but it's nice to have those options. All in all a very nice product.
One more little tip, when you do make mashed potatoes with this, you won't need to add as much milk. This is a mistake you only make once!
Description of MIU Stainless-Steel Potato PresserThis Potato Ricer in Stainless by MIU France is ideal for making your mashed potatoes. The press is designed much like a garlic press, just lift the handles and place the food into the hopper. You squeeze the handles together to press the food through the perforated hopper. The side hook helps you to secure the placement of the press over pots or bowls. Since the press breaks down large and small chunks of food, using the press will produce lighter, fluffier and smoother mashed potatoes. Unlike a food processor, the press will not over-work or break down the starches, which can result in gooey or gummy tasting potatoes. This press can be used with all steamed fruits and vegetables to make purees and sauces. Parents can use this press to make fresh, chemical, and preservative-free foods for toddlers. Dishwasher safe.
For over 15 years MIU has been producing kitchenware products for the gourmet kitchenware industry. Their extensive knowledge and know-how on product design, market demand, manufacturing techniques, and more importantly what customers want has made their products favorites all over the world. Their products are elegant and made from the finest quality materials including stainless steel, ceramic, glass, bamboo, maple and oak. MIU France is committed to its reputation for quality, reliability, technical advancement, and innovation.
Size: 10.75L x 3.5W x 4.75H inches <--> Color: Stainless The way to perfect mashed potatoes is through a ricer, the most basic form of which is the potato press. The reason it's so good to mash potatoes this way, is that it breaks down lumps that a hand-held masher might miss with the least amount of effort. Overworking cooked potatoes--by using a food processor, for instance--can break down starch molecules and result in gooey rather than smooth, fluffy mashed potatoes. The MIU France stainless steel potato presser works just like a large garlic press. Two hinged handles, when compressed, push a plunger down into a cylindrical hopper; the riced potato is then extruded out the bottom of the press. (It's called ricing because the pressed potato resembles grains of rice, at least until it gets mashed.) The bottom handle's comfortably-spaced finger indentations provide a strong grip while pressing. This tool is also well-suited for pureeing fruits and vegetables for soups, desserts, preserves, or homemade baby foods. The MIU France potato presser is made of 18/10 stainless steel--brushed on the inside with a high-gloss, chrome-like polish on the outside. The presser is dishwasher-safe. However, when washing by hand, avoid harsh abrasive scrubbers or cleansers in order to preserve the polished finish. The presser measures 11 by 4 by 4 inches, including handles. --Garland Withers
