Got this for an older woman with very painful osteoarthritis. I am so happy that she no longer has pain opening jars. She is very happy to have this opener!
One negative: The item could be improved by enabling someone to open any sized jar. As it is, this is a substantial negative. Hope they fix that.
Update: March 3009: It still looks and acts as new. It has become a fixture in this lady's kitchen & she uses it everyday-it's that easy to use. Put the jar on the counter, stick the gadget on it and let 'er go. No problems!
This is used often to open those Ensure bottles which can bring someone to tears trying to open them. I never cease to wonder how a product for a weakened, ill, or elderly individual who is trying to get stronger with good nutrition could be so hard to open. It's downright mean! Mercifully, for every problem there is usually a solution. This is a good & affordable solution to help someone who lives alone get the nutrition they need!
Update: About a year later, this has become an indispensable kitchen tool, replacing all the other so-called jar openers. The recipient comment: "When I first saw this, I thought, oh-another gadget-but it is really terrific and probably my most helpful thing in the kitchen".
The tool still looks brand new, is lightweight, and is extraordinarily helpful. It is used most often to open those nutritional/caloric supplements-a must for an older person or finicky eater!

I am in Amazon today to buy a replacement for the One-Touch Jar Opener that my wife bought (somewhere) and it finally broke. I don't use it, but she gave it 5 stars, and demands it be replaced. ("yes, dear"). I don't know how long she has had it, but evidently long enough that she didn't complain that it didn't last. I'll buy two this time, because if it is something she depends on this much, I had better have another one on the shelf on 'stand by', ready to go.Customer Review: Cheap plastic parts don't hold up over time

I got both the can opener and the jar opener and as many others have stated the can opener is phenomenal and works really well. The jar opener worked about 6 times and when I tried to open a 3-inch jar (it says it will open a 4-inch jar) a plastic part on the portion that grips the jar broke and it was no longer usable. I would rate this a one-star as 6 uses for $20 isn't a very good track record!Customer Review: Dangerous product - do not buy!

I bought mine at CVS. Put in fresh batteries. Tried to open a can of tuna. It cut for a couple of seconds, then died. I followed the directions, including those for how to remove it, if it got stuck. It wouldn't remove. I ended up throwing it out, because I didn't want to take a stinky can of tuna back to the store. I did tell them, and they did not offer to reimburse me. No more, AS SEEN ON TV products for me. Twenty dollars thrown into the trash along with my tuna.
