Customer Review: Great Booklight for some people and not for others

I have had one since they were first introduced a few years ago. My feelings for this product are mixed, hence my mediocre rating. This is the least obtrusive booklight on the market. For some situations, it is great, but it has some Achilles' heels. You look THROUGH this booklight, so focus is difficult for some people. My halogen booklight, compared side-by-side to this light, provides far crisper, more legible viewing.
The LightWedge works better for those below 40-45 years of age, those not cursed with presbyopia. Older people may find their eyes do not adjust well to looking through a thick focal surface and find that their eyes will try to hunt for the true focal plane. Another problem: you WILL NOT keep scratches and dust off of it. Don't consider using without the newly introduced soft case, and ALWAYS put it back in the case when not using it. Also, be careful of the battery cover. It is a bit finicky and easy to break while replacing the batteries.
Consider this a disposable product. You will want to get another one every few years because of the scratches. I wish they made one out of optical, non-reflective, tempered glass.
I hate to list so many negatives and few positives, because this light does what it claims and is more usable than a standard booklight in some situations. However, I recommend buying it along with a halogen booklight (crisper lighting). Each type has its advantages.

We bought our first Lightwedge about three years ago. Our young son quickly claimed it for his own. It's great for encouraging reading before bedtime and doesn't bother our other son, who bunks in with him. Lightwedge is a GREAT, unique gift for all of those birthday parties kids get invited to - especially with the new Harry Potter edition. Although our son leaves his on, brings it on trips without its protective case, and generally treats it poorly, we have had no problems. The Lightwedge is extrememly durable and the batteries seem to last forever.Customer Review: Great for night readers

Hi, bought the LightWedge as a holiday gift because i love mine. But the one
I purchased here, though it came hermetically sealed in its package, had a
flaw -- the toggle button which allows for dimming the light did not work.
It moved, but it didn't dim. Felt bad, because it was a gift. Otherwise,
i think it's a really great item that provides light only for the page, and
doesn't light up the room or blind your eyes in the darkness.

Makes reading in bed at night very nice. My wife's a light sleeper and the light from the LightWedge doesn't bother her. The one issue is that you have to take particular care of the item to keep it from scratching. Mine is now covered with scratches, but this can be prevented if you're a careful user. My reading glasses aren't in the best shape either.
