This is what I hoped it would be. I can read anything in low light or no light, without light 'spilling over' to the space around me. Solid product! The light illuminates the page nicely without giving off too much light that may disrupt your lover's sleep. This can be used as a tool to preserve a solid relationship if your bed buddy is easily annoyed with any lights on at bedtime. I have been using mine for a while. The plastic is scratched through the years but I travel with mine. I suggest getting a travel case if you plan to be mobile with it. I bought this product for my husband for Christmas. I thought it would be his solution to reading late at night while on shift or at home in bed. Well, the glass panel looked great until we placed it on the page of the book and noticed several tiny scratches and nicks on the glass panel. It arrived to us in its full package and I couldn't understand why this was so; unless it was damaged prior to packaging or we were sent a USED product. I was quite disappointed. As we had already opened the package and I had tossed the shipping bill from Amazon, I felt I couldn't return it.
As for the light itself? Great. It is more of a glow that doesn't interrupt sleep at all. I recommend this product to anyone who is a bed-time reader but URGE you to buy from a store rather than online to ensure no scratches or nicks on the glass panel.

I really love this product and it's far superior to any other hanging booklights I have ever used. My only complaint is that it should automatically come with a cleaning cloth and cleaning solution because it gets dirty quite easily. Other than that I would recommend this product.
